I only read memoirs if they are narrated by the author and this one is perfect in that format. I loved learning more about Davis‘ unique upbringing in the Cape Cod area, & her quirky personality, which shifted from extreme politeness to finally have any ability to stand up for herself later in her career. She‘s been in so many classic movies & has done so much for gender representation in the industry. I still hate how Hollywood treats women. 🤮

I enjoyed this memoir. Her rise to fame is less interesting than the rest. I‘d love to see a nonfiction book come out of the Geena Davis Institute b/c I‘m not likely to pick up the reports: https://seejane.org (pretty cool domain tho).

Well, I felt like saying to this book ‘It‘s not you, it‘s me‘ and then walking away. But I stuck at it even though I didn‘t really enjoy it. There‘s a part where she says during filming of Accidental Tourist that William Hurt got exasperated and told the director she was driving him crazy. I‘m with William Hurt on this one! She drove me crazy and I only read her book! Too much craziness for me! But enjoyed the Thelma and Louise references.

Cleaning and taking care of my pandemic plants on a Monday let me finish this lovely audio book. I love her and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this
Fun fact: her mother purposely spelt her name wrong so that people wouldn‘t think of the word vagina when they saw her name 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

mcctrish @TheBookHippie isn‘t that NUTS?! I laughed out loud for ages 1y
TheBookHippie @mcctrish reminds me of the song Dina won‘t you blow your horn … my daughter sang vagina won‘t you blow… 😵‍💫 1y

Self read by the author who never bashed anyone even when they deserved it. And when her voice cracked with emotion 💔 I cried for her loss. Overall a good read 📚

I very much relate to Geena when she says the big task in her life is ‘to close the gap between when something happens to me and when I react authentically to it.‘ Feels like an never ending challenge!
