Paris, 1940: He pressed the tattered book into her hands. 'You must go to the caf and ask at the counter for Pierre Duras. Tell him that I sent you. Tell him you're there to save the people of France.'Sliding the coded message in between the crisp pages of the hardback novel, bookstore owner Laurence slips out into the cold night to meet her resistance contact, pulling her woollen beret down further over her face. The silence of the night is suddenly shattered by an Allied plane rushing overhead, its tail aflame, heading down towards the forest. Her every nerve stands on end. She must try to rescue the pilot. But straying from her mission isn't part of the plan, and if she is discovered it won't only be her life at risk...America, years later: when Jeanne uncovers a dusty old box in her father's garage, her world as she knows it is turned upside down. She has inherited a bookstore in a tiny French village just outside of Paris from a mysterious woman named Laurence. Travelling to France to search for answers about the woman her father has kept a secret for years, Jeanne finds the store tucked away in a corner of the cobbled main square. Boarded up, it is in complete disrepair. Inside, she finds a tiny silver pendant hidden beneath the blackened, scorched floorboards. As Jeanne pieces together Laurence's incredible story, she discovers a woman whose bravery knew no bounds. But will the truth about who Laurence really is shatter Jeanne's heart, or change her future? Inspired by true events, an epic and emotional novel about one woman's strength to survive in the most difficult circumstances and the power of love in the face of darkness. #Adventrecommends #Day2 February Book 1 - hard to pick only 2!

I loved this book set in the Second World War, and feel as if I have found another favourite author. This is based around true events. If you love the Second World War books of Kate Quinn I think you‘ll love this. Goodreads have a rating of 4.55 for this book so I am not alone clearly, that‘s higher than for Kate Quinn‘s books.

My real mother was a member of the French Resistance and owned a bookstore?

Why didn't you ever tell me, father?

Very well researched with marvelous characters, “book prescriptions,” WWII, secrets kept, a mystery to solve, and a bookstore.

Who could ask for more?

Paris 1940. This book was inspired by true events during World War II. Laurence Sidot's family bookstore in LaVallee du Cerf, France is being used as a French Resistance location during Germany's occupation of France. A book club is formed to read and discuss the banned books. Some of the books carry coded messages.

EadieB In America 1993, after her mother's death, Jeanne learns that she has inherited a bookstore in a French village from a woman named Laurence. She travels to France with her father, finds a silver pendant under the floorboard of the bookstore and learns who her mother really was. This was my first book by Siobhan Curham but won't be my last. It is a beautiful story about the power of books. 2y
EadieB The characters were very believable and well-drawn. The book held my interest from start to finish. If you love historical wartime novels, you will love this book. I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookcouture for a copy of the audio for an honest opinion. 2y

The Paris Network is set at the time of the German occupation of France, and centres around a book seller in a small village who focuses her resistance to the Germans around books and literature. 👇

Andrew65 Much of the book is rooted in historical fact and I think I learnt more about the occupation of France in this book than in any of the other books I have read. You get a real sense of how harsh this time was and the way the French were treated. This book was so superbly written that it makes you not want to put it down and I read it in a day. 👇 2y
Andrew65 You quickly fall in love with Laurence, the main character, and alongside the main story is the 1993 story of the daughter going on a voyage of discovery of the mother she never knew. This isn‘t a book for the feint-hearted, and there are many tragic elements to it; but most of all you feel the strength and courage of people at this time hitting you hard as it comes off each page. 👇 2y
Andrew65 This is certainly one of my favourite books of the year, and I am sure I have found a new favourite author. Definitely, though, don‘t expect a hearts and roses story. The book has a very strong ending that packs a big punch and floors you. However I am happy to be able to strongly recommend this book.

Thanks to the publisher, the author and Net Galley for a copy of the book for an open and honest review.
