League of Liars
League of Liars | Astrid Scholte
3 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
Shadows are dangerous. Edem is illegal. And liars are cowards. Ever since his mother was killed in a freak edem-based crime, seventeen-year-old Cayder Broduck has had one goal: to have illegal users of the extra-dimensional magic brought to justice. When Cayder secretly accepts an apprenticeship under the city's best public defender, he wants to learn every legal trick to dismantle defence arguments for when he becomes a prosecutor. Then he'll be able to punish the guilty without mercy. But the three criminals he is to defend are teenagers, like him, and their stories are ... complicated, like his. As their cases unfold, Cayder must race to separate the truth from the lies and uncover what really happened the night his mother died. From the bestselling author of Four Dead Queens comes a heart-pounding mystery rife with secrets and danger, where nothing is as it seems... 'Bursting with originality and mile-a-minute action, the twists, turns and thrills kept coming!' - Amie Kaufman, New York Times bestselling author of Illuminae and Aurora Rising

Pickpick

A thrill ride. I had a lot of fun reading this book. The world building is immersive quickly and the characters are likable, garnering the reader's empathy. I always find Scholte's writing to be extremely readable, and this was no different. I read this entire book over the course of a single weekend. I was actually disappointed when it ended because I wanted more to read, which is a rare feeling for me at the end of a book.

I am #currentlyreading two books at the same time. One is digital (Ana) so I read that one at night, and read the print copy (League) during the day. They couldn‘t be more different as evidenced by tags. Ana is also US and League is #LoveOzYA. #marchrso2022 #preview
