The John Lennon Letters
The John Lennon Letters: Edited and with an Introduction by Hunter Davies | John Lennon, Hunter Davies
11 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
A lifetime of letters, collected for the first time, from the legendary musician and songwriter. John Lennon is one of the world's greatest-ever song writers, creator of 'Help!', 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds', 'Imagine' and dozens more. Now, his letters have been collected and published, illuminating as never before the intimate side of a private genius. Hunter Davies, author of the only authorised biography of The Beatles, has tracked down almost three hundred of John's letters and postcards - to relations, friends, fans, strangers, lovers and even to the laundry. Some of the letters are tender, informative, funny, angry and abusive, and some are simply heart-breaking. Many are illustrated with John's own drawings, doodles and jokes. Davies tells the story of each letter and together they form a compelling narrative, from Lennon's earliest surviving thank-you note, written when he was ten, to his last scribbled autograph given on 8 December 1980 - the day he was shot, aged forty.

Illuminating, amusing, and heartbreaking. Christopher Eccleston plays John in the audio version, with Allan Corduner narrating the explanatory bits. No matter your level of Beatles fandom, you're bound to learn something new. Highly recommended.

In a letter to his cousin Leila, John talks about his healthy eating and exercise, and says he will live to a ripe old age 😭😭😭

#bookandlunch, train edition. Fettuccine with mushroom sauce and parmesan cheese. And yay biscotti for dessert!

Melissa_J You are obviously travelling VIA 1. I never get food like that when I take the train 🤣 7y
rabbitprincess @Melissa_J Yes! I always take VIA 1 if I'm going to Toronto. Sometimes I'll go economy to Montreal, but for the 4h trips and ESPECIALLY on a holiday weekend, I always go VIA 1. 7y

Finally starting an audiobook that isn't a Doctor Who novel 😂

This seems to be the only book in my library with a title that starts with J. I have the audio version narrated by Christopher Eccleston. Eccleston played Lennon in a biopic called Lennon Naked, featuring Naoko Mori (Tosh from Torchwood) as Yoko and Andrew Scott (MORIARTY 😱) as McCartney.
#anditsaugust day 11: starts with J

#riotgrams #bookyouveownedlongest

These are probably the books I've owned the longest. They stay around because they are part of the decor 😜

Tex2Flo I've got a Thomas Pynchon that I've been staring at for over 20 years. Scary damn thing. 7y

Learn to speak his language, he has a way of storytelling that one will either be entertained or didn't get at all. Love him.

When I first saw the #minimalisticcovers theme for #day6 of the #augustphotochallenge this was the first book that came to mind. I had a look through my shelves but this one is definitely my favourite one. Looking forward to see everyone's picks for today.
