DUNE: The Graphic Novel, Book 1: Dune
DUNE: The Graphic Novel, Book 1: Dune | Frank Herbert
10 posts | 9 read | 10 to read
The definitive graphic novel adaptation of Dune, the groundbreaking science-fiction classic by Frank Herbert Dune, Frank Herberts epic science-fiction masterpiece set in the far future amidst a sprawling feudal interstellar society, tells the story of Paul Atreides as he and his family accept control of the desert planet Arrakis. A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism, and politics, Dune is a powerful, fantastical tale that takes an unprecedented look into our universe, and is transformed by the graphic novel format. In the first volume of a three-book trilogy encompassing the original novel, Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Andersons adaptation retains the story's integrity, and Ral Alln and Patricia Martns magnificent illustrations, along with cover art by Bill Sienkiewicz, bring the book to life for a new generation of readers.

For the love of Shai'hulud!
Do I need to read yet another adaptation of Dune?
Yes, apparently, yes! I do need to read yet another adaptation of Dune!
Praise Shai'hulud! 🙏🐛🛐

The_Book_Ninja Can‘t wait for part 2 of the movie. 7mo
Bookwomble @The_Book_Ninja I hated Villeneuve's Blade Runner sequel, but my fears about how he'd handle Dune were, thankfully, not realised. So, yes, I'm looking forward to the second part, too 😊 7mo

Great artwork and introduction to the Dune universe from a graphic novel perspective!

The illustration of this graphic novel are superb. I love that each scene has a different color pallet to make it distinguished between each other. Great story, there is a HUGE plot twist in the graphic novel that's as left out of the movie. Wild.

Would anyone be interested in a graphic novel swap sometime in May? I am not saying I'll do it for sure just gauging interest for now... does anyone know if someone already hosts a GN swap? I'd love to join if there is something already setup.

Graphic novels tend to be a little more expensive then regular books so I think I'd limit it to one or two GN and one or two gifts.

wanderinglynn I thought I remembered one from some time ago but I can‘t think of who hosted it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Maybe @LibrarianRyan or @Chrissyreadit remembers. 2y
Chrissyreadit I think @LibrarianRyan hosted one? I would be interested- but it turns out I‘m super picky about GN‘s. 2y
LibrarianRyan @Chrissyreadit @wanderinglynn yes there was one years ago. It was manga/GN. And very few people. It‘s has always seemed to work well as #LMPbC but as Chrissy said some people are very picky because pictures can be more triggering than words. Plus as you mentioned the price. I‘d do it if someone hosted 2y
rsteve388 Hmm that's good to know, well if I can find a second and we can build this together then I may be willing to do it. But I need a second person cause doing matches are hard.... 2y

This 1/3 graphic novel is true to the spruce material. Really great graphics! And read fast! I can‘t wait for the other volumes to release!

And super looking forward to seeing the movie later this year!

Hooboy! I‘m fangirling guys.
The only reason it‘s not five glorious, supernova stars is the artwork falls flat in a few cells. The worms were particularly underwhelming. They felt static, and I‘ve read plenty of graphic novels, so I know movement can be portrayed well.
But oh. My. God. The story!😍 I have to tattle on myself and admit I read this before reading the novel, but I‘m going to quickly rectify that error, maybe in next months TBR!

My #ThinkPositiveBePositive quote for today actually comes from the book I‘m reading. 🤘😆🤘
This really spoke to me. Too often I give in to my fears, whatever form they might take. I‘ve most recently been trying to conquer my fear of heights. There‘s a zip line I want to do in June. I might need to write this quote on my arm or something. 😅
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Does anyone else have a positive/inspirational quote they‘d like to share? 🤗❤️

The_Penniless_Author The good old Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear. I actually remember silently reciting this to myself as a kid to quell anxiety. I don't know if it actually worked or not, but here I am, still kicking 😁 3y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm @The_Penniless_Author It definitely resonated with me too. I‘m glad it was there to help you. Words are magic. 🤗 3y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks ❤️❤️❤️let me know how it goes! I‘m also scared of heights!! 3y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Unfortunately the weather never worked out for long enough for the family to think Anakeesta was worth it, so zip lining didn‘t happen. However, I rode their humongous ferris wheel, so that was an accomplishment! 😅👍 3y

Since I recently read Dune, I checked this graphic novel adaptation mostly out of interest for the artwork. I was a bit disappointed with the very wordy, dialogue heavy panels. The pages that focused on the imagery of the landscape were the ones that I enjoyed the best, but the emphasis was more on the plot. I also did not care for the visual characterization of Paul and Jessica. Someone else will love this, but it was just OK to me. 3 ⭐️

Started this beauty today! 😍

Now I‘ve read all six original books, it‘s nice going back to the start where it all began.

This is the first of three graphic novels for the first Dune book.

Suet624 I might have to hunt this one down! 3y
Rachbb3 That‘s on my TBR for this year. 👍🏻 3y
CrowCAH @Suet624 I highly recommend; the drawings are beautiful, the words are the highlights of the text, and it‘s a fast read, already a quarter of the way through. 3y
CrowCAH @Rachbb3 most definitely! It might be a good refresher right before the movie releases in October this year! (Let‘s hope it doesn‘t get delayed, again) 3y
