I really enjoyed this story about the life of Clio Campbell. At the beginning of the story is kills herself and we then hear from the different people who were in her life. It goes back and forth into different times of her life with each person. We try to find out who was Clio Campbell. I liked how she was trying to stand up for Women's rights and giving a voice to women. Quite a gritty read.

This book is an amazing piece of writing in that it has so many layers - feminism, celebrity fame, independence, betrayal, loyalty. Clio is a true revolutionary and being a woman she is judged so much more harshly for her beliefs and practices. I enjoyed reading this book while living in Scotland as the setting is an important part of the story, yet still universal in that it's ultimately about humanity and our need for connection.

I started this a couple of months ago but for some reason stopped midway. I liked it but needed a break (no idea why). Yesterday I picked it up and powered through it. Wow, wow, wow- damn the Scots can write a powerful story. Certainly one of the best books I read in 2020!

Day 4. Scabby Queen. Where to start? The life of Clio Campbell takes us on a tour of Scottish political activism from the miner strikes through to the 2014 Independence Referendum. Each chapter is told from the perspective of someone who has met Clio, from a chance encounter on a train to her adopted father figure. This was one of my favourite books of 2020 - I still find myself missing Clio.

Thanks to @Andrew65 for hosting #12Booksof2020.
