Surrender, White People!
Surrender, White People!: Our Unconditional Terms for Peace | D. L. Hughley, Doug Moe
5 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
Surrender, white people! After 400 years of white supremacy, America has had enough. Cities are in flames and a reckoning is here. Time to listen up, look history in the face, and surrender unjust privilege. These are the terms of peaceand they are unconditional. The legendary activist/comedian and author of the hilarious yet soul-shaking (Black Enterprise) bestseller How Not to Get Shot returns to address a nation on the edge of civil war. After centuries of oppressing others, white people are in for a surprise: Youre about to be a minority yourself. Yes, the face of America is getting a lot brownerand a reckoning is coming. Black and brown folk are not going to take a back seat anymore. Its time to lay down your unjust privileges and sue for peace while the gettings still good. Lucky for America, D.L. Hughley has a plan. Hope you have a sense of humor, because this is gonna sting. On the eve of America becoming a majority-minority nation, Hughley warns, the only way for America to move forward peacefully is if Whites stare their history in the face, put aside all their visions of superiority, and open up their institutions so they benefit everyone in this nation. But we can still have fun with this right? Surrender, White People! hilariously holds America account for its wrongs and offers his satirical terms for reparations and reconciliation. But its not all bad news, white folks. The upside is that if you put D.L.s plan into effect, you can FINALLY get black people to stop talking about oppression, discrimination, and their place in America. Thats something we can get behind.

Another insightful and extremely funny book by Hughley. His razor sharp wit and amazing comic delivery had me laughing at the same time as I was getting mad about the injustice of the things he was talking about. 4 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fast read and the funniest race book I‘ve read in awhile. Best case for reparations that I‘ve seen. Good points and is an excellent use of how an author‘s tone can be used to engage an audience for all you ELA teachers out there😁.

I didn't enjoy this as much as How Not to Get Shot but D. L. Hughley still brings his signature satire and humour to this in order to discuss racism in America.

DL Hughley has done it again. His satirical, tongue in cheek manifesto on how to improve race relations is chock full of history as well as a good dose of humor. He argues strongly for reparations, but not in the way you may expect. For example, POC should only be charged 3/5 the price of a Popeye‘s chicken sandwich. Blackface is ok, but only if you‘re doing it in a situation where POC are typically judged harshly, such as an interview for a loan.

#bookreport and #weeklyforecast

I finished some awesome books this week—all were 4 stars verging on 5. The Warmth of Other Suns was so expansive and informative—a must read.

Flo decided The Witches was too scary so she asked me to read her Matilda again. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hoping to start Fleishman today. The Hughley book is being released on 6/30 so that one will be next for me on audio probably. Otherwise I‘m just kind of seeing where my mood goes.

Cinfhen I wonder what you‘ll make of 4y

ravenlee I remember finding The Witches pretty scary, and I think I was about 10 at the time. 4y
Reviewsbylola Yeah she‘s only 6. She enjoyed it until the boy got locked in the conference room and realized he was surrounded by witches and then she decided she was not ok with it. 😂 @ravenlee 4y
ravenlee Yep, that was it. Going alone fine, and then a big nope! 4y
