I‘ve definitely found a new favourite author after reading The square of sevens and now this wonderfully engrossing historical novel

Such a brilliant book, set in London 1782, Caroline Corsham discovers a women's body, but once the police find out she was a prostitute they aren't interested at all. So Caroline hires Peregrine Child to find out who killed the woman. I love historical crime fiction and this was one of the best I have read in ages.

A totally unexpected, shocking and violent ending in the this book which is set in 1782 Georgian London. The final 120 pages had an excellent gripping storyline, it was a shame that the first 450 pages were so slow and drawn out. Don't expect any genteel conversation between the men and women in this story, it was all straight talking with bad language, murderous and sexual content none of which left much to one's imagination.

A lovely enjoyable historical fiction with lots of mystery, grit, excitement and glamour. Definitely worth a read!

Picked this one up when First Minister Nicola Sturgeon shared it on World Book Day & it did not disappoint! Highly recommend if you‘re a fan of historical fiction and mystery/suspense! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book was so enjoyable that I couldn‘t put it down. The style of writing and everything about it reminds me of one of my favourite classical authors Wilkie Collins. I know that this book is set in the 1780‘s and Wilkie Collins books are set in his life time in the 1800‘s. There were so many twists and turns to this book I couldn‘t workout who the murderer was.
