The Hundred Names of Darkness
The Hundred Names of Darkness | Nilanjana Roy
5 posts | 2 read | 37 to read
"A delight to read. Eliot's Old Possum would have enjoyed these Practical Indian Cats." Salman Rushdie In the sequel and conclusion to her critically acclaimed, internationally bestselling novel, The Wildings, Nilanjana Roy takes us back to the Delhi neighbourhood of Nizamuddin, and its unforgettable cats--Mara, Southpaw, Katar, Hulo and Beraal. As they recover slowly from their terrible battle with the feral cats, they find their beloved locality changing around them. Winter brings an army of predators--humans, vicious dogs, snakes, bandicoots--along with the cold and a scarcity of food...Unless Mara can help them find a safe haven, their small band will be wiped out forever. With the assistance of a motley group of friends including Doginder, a friendly stray; Hatch, a cheel who is afraid of the sky; Thomas Mor, an affable peacock; Jethro Tail, the mouse who roared; and the legendary Senders of Delhi, Mara and her band set out on an epic journey to find a place where they can live free from danger.

Thanks for the tag @veritysalter!!
1. Absolutely. I really don't understand why ugly covers exist.
2. Tagged.
3. Honestly, the news depresses the bejeebers out of me, so I rarely check. My husband is a news junkie, so I figure he'll tell me if something major is happening. 😆
4. Immediately - hate the snooze button!

@rubyslippersreads It has a pretty title page too. Some of the reviews of the books mention illustrations, but this edition sadly only has the one illustration.

I haven't read this yet, but my daughter wants you all to know that it has less action and more worrying than the first book, but more Mara and more background, so on the balance this is maybe the better book just slower paced.

She is also shamelessly insisting on taking the opportunity to ask @LibrarianRyan if you've forgotten you said you'd send her a book way back in September. ☺️ 🙈

merelybookish How old is your daughter? 6y
Leniverse @merelybookish She'll be 11 in January. Sometimes she's going on 30. Other times she's like 5. 😅 6y
merelybookish @Leniverse I wondered because I have an almost 12-year-old daughter. She reads a lot and has strong book opinions. She is also an emotional rollercoaster! 😶 6y

LibrarianRyan Nope. Not forgotten. It's in the car awaiting payday for shipping. (Tomorrow). I have yours an another international envelope to go out. My PO has been a little mean lately. New staff not as helpful or nice as the old ones. 6y
Leniverse @merelybookish Does she want a bookish pen pal in the U.K. for book recs and reviews? 6y
merelybookish @Leniverse I bet she would! She's really into fantasy and manga. Does that align with your daughter's taste at all? 6y
rubyslippersreads ❤️ this cover! 6y
Leniverse @LibrarianRyan Sorry to nag you. Well, more like a gentle albeit public reminder. 😄 My daughter is burning up with curiosity. 😂 And boo to unhelpful post office staff! Maybe they'll improve with practice. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Leniverse understandable. Which is why I left them in the car on the front seat. My bro in law asks me every time he gets in the car when I'm going to mail them. I have yours and one going to Germany I believe. Tomorrow. 6y
Leniverse @merelybookish Yes, she loves fantasy and adventure books. Manga and graphic novels in general. She has, however, not yet reached the stage where she's keen on love triangles (or love interests at all). 6y
Leniverse @LibrarianRyan You are an international book fairy. ❤️ 6y
Leniverse @merelybookish If your daughter is interested, send me a message to Leni.iversen@gmail.com and I'll let you know my daughter's email address. 6y
merelybookish @Leniverse Sounds good! Ill talk to her after school. She also finds love interests annoying. 😀 6y
Leniverse @merelybookish They sound well matched! 😃 6y

Ok, I want to read this book because of the cover. Does anyone know anything about the author or the previous book in the series? The blurb on the back compares her work to Neil Gaiman, so...😍
