Lightspeed Magazine, June 2015 (Queers Destroy Science Fiction Special Issue)
Lightspeed Magazine, June 2015 (Queers Destroy Science Fiction Special Issue) | Seanan McGuire, Lightspeed Magazine, Chaz Brenchley, John Chu

Even in science fiction, supposedly the genre of limitless possibility, where everyone is invited to the adventure, heterosexual, heteroromantic, and cisgendered are considered the default, to the extent that everything else is "deviation", and must be eyed with suspicion. This issue contains 10 original science fiction short stories (selected by guest editor Seanan McGuire), including new stories by award-winning queer authors Amal El-Mohtar, and John Chu; 4 classic short story reprints and a novella reprint (selected by guest reprint editor Steve Berman); approx. 10,000 words of original flash fiction (selected by guest flash fiction editor Sigrid Ellis); 7 nonfiction articles (selected by guest nonfiction editor Mark Oshiro); approx. 30 personal essays about the experience reading and writing science fiction as a queer person (selected by managing editor Wendy N. Wagner); original artwork (selected by and featuring a cover by guest art director Elizabeth Leggett); and more!

Mehso-so

An anthology of science fiction stories by queer voices and with queer representation.

Anthologies are pretty hit & miss for me, & this one didn‘t really hit. The stories were mostly fine, the narrators were great, but I want sci fi that I‘m still thinking about.

Although I will be searching out E Saxey, because the story Amelioration has me thinking about language & hateful rhetoric. I listened to that story twice before moving on. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Kenyazero Nice! Anthologies are often hit or miss with me too. It's always fun when you discover an author in them though. 2w

Had a hospital appointment yesterday and had the tilt table test. Listening to this audio book on the way there helped my nerves a bit

Couldn't decide between having a book day or a crochet day. Doing both. Audio book and crochet! Yay!

I backed the People of Color Destroy Science fiction Kickstarter by Lightspeed magazine and as a reward I got a lovely pile of back issues of Lightspeed, together with the Destroy series.📚❤️
This is a review of issue 57 (not on #litsy).

Really cool issue! I really enjoyed 'And you shall know her by the trail of dead' by Brooke Bolander, 'Red Planet' by Caroline M. Yoachim and Elizabeth Bear's novella.

The gorgeous art is by Julie Dillion.😍

moranadatter I backed it too. Have you read Nightmare Magazine for October yet? I'm planning to start that on Monday. 8y
bandigiu @kmdartist I'll be starting it tomorrow as well! Short stories are perfect for the daily commute😊 8y
