pickBefore beginning this book, I considered my knowledge on the events of the Holocaust to be very good. This book taught me so much more. It‘s a very comprehensive account of the events prior to, and preceding, Kristallnacht, which draws in the events of the war and the Holocaust where they fit. I learnt a great deal from this book and am very glad that I chose to read it.
It‘s not that the world chose not to look but more like the world actively worked against the Jews after the Evian Conference. France, Portugal, Costa Rica, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Peru effectively closed their doors or restricted numbers drastically. Honduras attempted to accommodate the Jews, the Dominican Republic too. Cuba welcomed a boat of around 1100 but then only allowed 22 to land. Shameful.
I‘ve been at home all week with what I think is a trapped nerve, so I‘ve been stuck on the sofa. I‘ve got lots of reading done and have drunk lots of tea though! I‘ve had this new tea set and it‘s really cool! 🐱 🐈 ☕️ 🛋 📚 📖
