Attack on Titan 1
Attack on Titan 1 | Hajime Isayama
In this post-apocalytpic sci-fi story, humanity has been devastated by the bizarre, giant humanoids known as the Titans. Little is known about where they came from or why they are bent on consuming mankind. Seemingly unintelligent, they have roamed the world for years, killing everyone they see. For the past century, what's left of man has hidden in a giant, three-walled city. People believe their 100-meter-high walls will protect them from the Titans, but the sudden appearance of an immense Titan is about to change everything. Winner of the 2011 Kodansha Manga Award (Shonen) and nominated for the prestigious Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize for 2012.

Continuing to read books outside my typical reads. Now I must confess, I enjoy the anime, so I am not suprised I enjoyed the manga version as well.

I like the storyline: a world where humans are stuck behind walls because titans seem to only want one thing, to consume said humans.

Took me about an hour to read I absolutely loved this book. It is about Eren Jaeger a young boy from Shiganshina district on Wall Rose. He starts living in a town with his best friends Mikasa and Armin. Titans break through the wall and Eren is left to find his mother with Mikasa. Erens dream was to join the scouts so he achieves that goal of sacrificing his life for hunanity

1. ...yeeesss..? I think that mostly you can separate them, but I think there are some that really muddy the waters between the two. Civil War by Mark Millar comes to mind. It uses characters typically considered “comic book” characters yet the story is nuanced and there‘s genuine character development. I also feel like manga is its own separate genre from the two (again, with many fence-sitters), and should be considered.
⬇️

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm 2. I‘ve tagged my personal fav, but I also can‘t recommend enough: the aforementioned Civil War, V for Vendetta (or almost anything Alan Moore writes), Y: The Last Man, Hellsing, Elfquest, and for all you hardcore literary types The Hobbit graphic novel.
3. Both. It all depends on the intent of the artist and what kind of story they are trying to convey.

BookmarkTavern Oh. My. God. Someone else who has read Elfquest! I was so sure that was some kind of fever dream from when I was in high school! 😂😂😂 Thanks for sharing! 4y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm @ozma.of.oz 😂🤣😂 Yay!! 😜❤️ It‘s definitely a guilty pleasure, but it‘s so PRETTY, I can‘t help but recommend it. It‘s the fluffiest thing on the list. 😅 I figured I had to throw in a more feel-good one too. 😂🤣😂 4y

I so felt like reading #manga, and this book came in as a donation to my #LittleFreeLibrary this week. I know there are 28 books in this series, but it really is okay if I only read one. I started the first book today. 😃

SqueakyChu The book‘s fun so far! 4y

Attack on Titan, Chapter 119 (via MangaRock)

I just finished reading the most recent chapter released on online - the insanity! Is anyone else here caught up with the story? I wonder how many chapters are left before the series ends 🤔 One more month before chapter 120 is released 😆

I need the second volume. NOW. Action packed and fast paced you don‘t have a moment to catch your breath with this one. A bit early to tell but this could be a new favorite! Set in a world where humans are eaten by fleshless creatures called Titans. We follow a group of humans that are tired of living in fear and are determined to take down the Titans and gain their homeland back. 5 🌟

This was even more brutal than I thought it would be. No one is safe from the Titans and getting eaten!

4/5⭐ I've watched season 1 of the anime, & I wanted to read the source material. It did not disappoint. The artwork is wonderful, each panel's contents perfectly chosen to convey action, tension, or emotion. Even knowing what would happen, I was still caught up in that post-apocalyptic horror vibe, the overwhelming threat to humanity, including tearing up at the inciting conflict of this volume. #projectnew #TomeInfinityAndBeyond2018

Attack on Titan, Chapters 103-105 (via #mangarock)

Shock, curiosity and sadness.

I was initially skeptical about the direction of the overall story, but am now enjoying it 😆 As always, I have so many questions I want answered. I guess that such is the beauty of suspenseful story telling 😆

I logged onto my MangaRock app and discovered new Attack on Titan chapters available to read 😁 Something to keep me occupied while I wait for my doctor to visit me in the examination room (he‘s already running late of course 🙄).

Well that was just a whole lot thrown in the face! This is an amazing manga (and anime); it‘s beautiful, gory, heart wrenching, and non-stop action. I can‘t wait to dive into the next volume! 😍

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BookishGirl06 I‘ve seen the anime, need to read this soon 6y
StellaDz @BookishGirl06 I still need to watch season 2! 6y
BookishGirl06 @StellaDz it‘s pretty good. Season 3 is supposed to be coming out this summer 6y

Gah, no. This is not for me.
I wanted to get through the first volume because my daughter is a fan, but I got half-way through and it‘s just so dark, none of the characters seem remotely likable or relatable, and the narration feels like it stumbles around a fair bit. Not my cup of tea.
Sorry, I know it‘s hugely popular 😬

Cheshirecat913 Never read the manga but watched the anime. It's brutal but there are good, likable characters when I kept going. 6y
Elisa @Cheshirecat913 yes, I‘ve watched the anime too. It‘s better. Not my favorite, but definitely better. I did start watching it in the middle though. 6y

I was recently told of an app that would allow me to read manga on my phone - for both available and unavailable titles in the US. Thanks to it, I was able to get caught up on some older series and also discovered some new series too. Needless to say, I didn‘t sleep much last night 😆

I actually like the anime a little bit more than the manga so far, because the show develops the chatacters a bit more. However, this is only the first volume, so more character development may come later on. Both are fantastic though, the story and the world building are incredible.

Re-reading of volume 1 is officially done! Forgot how many of the feels are in this one. And I'm using my Mikasa bookmark since she is one of the main in this series. 😊😄

BillBlume Love Mikasa! Easily my favorite character. I've only ever watched the anime. Might have to check out the books. 7y
Malisa @BillBlume You should definitely check them out!!! They get really good and they answer a lot of questions about the Titans and other stuff😄😄 7y
