As usual, lots of past actions are the cause of the current mystery. Trying to suss them out is the trick.

Sunny here while i read a snowy winter mystery set in Yorkshire. I love these Richard Jury mysteries even though there are tropes aplenty - usually a beautiful gentlewoman stoic & tragic, a feisty and friendless girl child, multiple women caving & telling all in the face of the good looks and quiet kindnesses of Richard Jury. But Grimes does settings so well and a ton of interesting side characters. Catnip for me!
Took some Litsy advice and cracked open a comfort read. Martha Grimes has been a favorite for years and I have been rediscovering her through Steve West‘s narrated audiobooks. The Old Silent isn‘t one of her best (a little too long and too many unresolved loose ends) but it got me through a rough couple of days.
Had to go to the Main library today for a training, so I picked up some backlist for a quick comfort read. For whatever reason, Martha Grimes's Richard Jury books are like popcorn to me, despite the high body count.
