Not the tagged book - I‘m reviewing Here We All Are by Ram Dass. This is a short audiobook; it‘s a live recording of one of his talks in front of a live audience. He shares about his experience at Harvard as a psychologist and how getting fired led him to India where he met his Guru and got on the spiritual path. He then shares some amazing lessons about spirituality. This is a great book for anyone new to Ram Dass. #MountTBR ☮️🕉

As a devotee of Ram Dass, I love learning and practicing his teachings. This book was published in the 1970s and his teachings are so applicable to today. The first part of the book tells his story of introduction to Buddhism and Hinduism. The middle are teachings and art. The end is the recipe for application to one‘s life. ☮️💟🕉 #MountTBR

#philosophy #spirituality #classics I liked the first part of the book a lot. It describes his journey from Harvard professor to disciple. The second part, with Dass‘ teachings, was okay. I kind of expected something a little different. The last part was kind of like a how-to guide and it was my least favorite part; I skimmed through a lot of it.

It was a lot more religious than I expected. And I was surprised at the hype around gurus.

Bookwomble It sounds like a bit of a let down for you 🤨 6y
KristinaRay @Bookwomble Yeah, I guess it was. There are definitely other philosophers that I resonate with a lot more. I took issue with his teachings on faith. He implied some will have a direct spiritual experience, but many will have to just exercise “faith.” Then he explains faith as trusting in those who have had a direct experience. Thats not faith. That‘s not enlightenment. That‘s religion. I just couldn‘t get past this. 6y
Bookwomble @KristinaRay I guess that attitude may arise from his relationship with Leary, and later with Maharaj-ji, both of whom were gurus to him. 6y
StarCrysis You‘re not really supposed to tread the middle part of the book if you aren‘t tripping 🐱 5y

I knew a little bit of history on Ram Dass before I started this book. So, I was a little apprehensive I‘d be bored with the history parts, but I‘m finding it fascinating so far.

Bookwomble One of my former tutors used to rave about Ram Dass and I've been meaning to read something by him, and never gotten around to it. Would you recommend this as a first introduction? It's the only one of his books I know the title of, so I'm guessing it's hismist accessible. 6y
KristinaRay @Bookwomble I think this is a great one to read first. It contains his philosophies as well as his background and history. This way you can get a clearer picture of how and why he came to his ideas. 6y
Bookwomble Stacked! I've had the program "Dying to Know: Ram Dass & Timothy Leary" saved on Netflix for a while, so I think I'll give that a watch now as preparation ? 6y

KristinaRay @Bookwomble I watched that documentary a while back. I recommend it as well. 6y
Bookwomble @KristinaRay Cool! I'm just preparing myself some supper and I'll settle down with it. Thanks 😊 6y
Bookwomble That was an interesting film. I'm certainly drawn more to Dass than to Leary. I've saved the programme linked at the end of this one, "Ram Dass, Going Home", which looks like it could be good too. 6y

So, what I'm listening to isn't exactly an audiobook, so I guess that's why it's not in the database. I've heard ram dass quoted a lot, but this is my first time going to the source. :)

Still waiting for my favorite book Repeatlessness to be added to the database. Happy Holidays y'all.
