panI love C. S. Lewis… but this book was just weird. The first book in this series was “Ok” but this one felt like a drug trip through allegorical theology. I know the message Lewis was trying to get across but it was just poorly executed. This was a difficult read that I had to force myself to finish even though it was relatively short. #52challenge

The majority of this book I can't say I really enjoyed, especially the first two-thirds. Too much flowery description and too many very similar conversations. I will say that I think the concept - an unfilled earth, someone preventing the serpent from tempting the first humans - is genius. The ending was beautiful even though I couldn't quite grasp all Lewis was trying to convey... like a Genesis and Revelation retelling smash-up.
pickDuring a tremendously productive run that began in the early 1940s, Lewis wrote many things, including this. It‘s actually part of a trilogy: the second - and best - of the three. I think he was trying to do for adults what his Narnia books did for children, but you don‘t have to appreciate - or even agree with - the Christian allegories to enjoy Perelandra. A deep and often beautiful work, Lewis never wrote fiction better than he did here.
pickSo much love for this book! It speaks directly to my faith and my relationship with God, but also provides such a beautiful story.

I've had this series on my shelf for YEARS. Today, I'm going in.
so-soThe second of three in this cosmic trilogy. I loved the descriptions and imagination of the world of Venus with its floating islands and bubble trees. There is a lot of philosophising with religious overtones which, although never subtle, definitely became more heavy handed by the end of the book.
pickI have to admit that I found this rather harder going than I remembered. I was truly enchanted by Lewis's ideas on the male and female, masculine and feminine, when I was younger, as well as on various other subjects he touches on. This time around I struggled with the philosophical, theological parts in the second part of the book. It was still beautiful... I have just changed a lot, I think. The first and third books are much easier.

pickI just love how Lewis can take any genre and use it to explore philosophy, theology, and the human psyche! Super-interesting, and I love Lewis' watery Venus.

3. I grew up in a village called Fairport Harbor in Lake County with Lake Erie bordering us on one side and Grand River on another. If that wasn't all on the nose enough, the entire aesthetic of the town was made up of lighthouses and anchors -- and honestly I'm more of a trees than water sort of woman 😂.

pickThis book (also called Voyage to Venus) is the second in Lewis‘s lesser known science fiction trilogy about inter planetary travel and morality and good versus evil. I personally found this excellent, faster moving and more compelling than the first, positively creepy and icky in places but still enjoyable. The language and format are old fashioned compared to what we are used to, but I‘m happy to have read it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I hadn‘t realized how many weird and truly baffling covers there were for C.S. Lewis‘ Space Trilogy until I read them with my book club a couple years ago, and spent time looking for cover images for our FB event posts. I own the two on the right and have always found them nostalgically and endearingly weird, but the one on the left? I have no words. 😶😦😂 #weirdestbookcover #riotgrams
