Nao Brown is not well. A 28-year-old half-Japanese, half-English girl tormented by her OCD and struggling to get her design and illustration career off the ground, she embarks on a spiritual journey to calm her mind, meeting Gregory, and washing machine repairman, along the way.

Mehso-so

This beautifully rendered graphic novel depicting a young girl's struggle with OCD goes someway toward showing what it's like to live with this horrendously debilitating condition.

It does a better job of conveying the acute distress than the chronicity & repetition (i.e days/weeks/months of the same mind-torturing thoughts.)

Despite moments of emotional warmth and poignancy, the story itself is a bit of a mess.

Gorgeous art though.

quietlycuriouskate Having had two episodes of life-wrecking OCD, I'll give this a miss! (Still scared of going back there.) 5mo

Because I'm a wally, I saved space on my list for #roll100 and then put the books on the list as well 🙈😶

So I've swapped in the two subs I mentioned and added another book on my TBR... Woohoo! Cheating at #bookspinbingo !!! 😉

This is going to be the month I get a bingo... I can feel it 🤣

RaeLovesToRead @Branwen I've read the first issue of Sunstone from the same artist (erotic BDSM comic with cute friendship/romance) and the art is lovely so I have high hopes for Harleen! 2y

More #comicthon reads! This one has the most gorgeous artwork but the story doesn't quite live up. Nao is an artist struggling with her OCD, but the book focuses more on her romantic relationships with crummy men than anything else. There was almost no discussion of any treatment options or coping mechanisms for OCD beyond meditation and oblique references to "homework", and the ending is a bit too pat for my taste. Still worth seeing for the art.

Holy cow-pants! This book! It was a vivid and raw look at a young woman navigating relationships, family and spirituality while dealing with a pretty intense case of OCD. The art was all done in water color and was seriously incredible. I highly recommend it!

Anybody read this one? I'm on a big graphic novel kick right now and a co-worker recommended it to me. The story is about a woman trying to move through life and develop her career while dealing with OCD. I'm excited to get started. (And it will check off a box on my Read Harder Challenge!)

RealLifeReading First I've heard of it but that cover is fascinating 8y
