Mehso-so

Oh, this book really disappointed me. There were entire sections in it that were challenging for me, where I just didn‘t enjoy reading the poems, and I struggled to get through them. That said, I laughed out loud at the short story section, and the book‘s final section was really good too. Overall, the book felt uneven, and I wished I could have taken out some of the poems I didn‘t enjoy and had more that were like the ones I loved. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

from "Advice to Myself" by Louise Erdrich. I love, love, love this poem. And return to it often. Read it to the end. The last line is killer!

slategreyskies @merelybookish I ended up driving to the next town over to get my county‘s only copy of one of her books of poems today. I‘m excited to read it, as I didn‘t even know she wrote poetry. :) 2y
merelybookish @slategreyskies oh wow! I'm impressed. This is the only poem I know by her. Obviously it's great so will be curious to hear what you think of the others! 2y
Centique That is fabulous! Erdrich is a queen. (Although I can‘t function well if I know things don‘t match or mold grows in the fridge, but that‘s just my one of my foibles 😂) 2y
Suet624 Have you ever read The Blue Jay's Dance? It's non-fiction. I read it a long time ago and loved it. 2y
merelybookish @Suet624 No but I will check it out! Thanks for the recommendation! 2y
merelybookish @Centique Haha yes that is a bridge too far perhaps but I am happy for any permission to care less about cleaning my house. 2y

Pickpick

Now more known for her award-winning novels, Louise Erdrich's writing career began with poetry. This collection gathers poems from her two published books and some new poems to show the fascinating evolution of her poetry. Her poems are marked by her native American heritage and a strong connection to nature and sexuality. A strong overview of her poetry career.

Another fantastic poetry collection and my first time with Erdrich. Native American history/culture, Catholicism, nature, America, time - all things I love, all things displayed here with wisdom and black humor. Loved it. And, oh yeah, this book is *hot.* Like steamy hot. 😉

AmandaL Her fiction is fantastic too. I love everything I've read by her, especially TRACKS. 8y
Caryl She's amazing. She's a visual artist, too, which I learned from this exhibit in a gallery next to her bookstore: http://www.mprnews.org/story/2015/04/17/books-louise-erdrich-galleryhickleberryp... 8y
