Edge Chronicles 1: Beyond the Deepwoods
Edge Chronicles 1: Beyond the Deepwoods | Paul Stewart
Young Twig lives in the Deepwoods, among the Woodtrolls, but he isn' t one of them. In a brave attempt to find out where he belongs, Twig wanders into the mysterious, dangerous world beyond the Deepwoods. He meets a collection of odd companions, such as his wise guardian, the Caterbird; the Slaughterers, a peaceful race who butcher animals for their livelihood; and the vicious, bile-swilling Rotsucker. Always watching out for the horrible Gloamglozer, whose presence haunts the thoughts of all the inhabitants of The Edge, Twig steadfastly pursues his quest until he discovers his roots, not among the trees, but in the skies. . . .

Mehso-so

This series isn‘t for me. I finished this book and got over halfway through the second, but it took way too long to get through them. I was finding a thousand other things to do instead of reading and ultimately I had to call it quits. Not enough story/character development, fine for a young audience but not for me.

So I gave up on windup girl. She‘s the title character and her introductory scene is her getting raped. Awesome. Not. So I picked up a Tad Williams that‘s been on my shelf for literally years. I think I got through the first chapter. Meh. So now I‘m rereading Beyond the Deepwoods in the hopes that I can at least read the 6 volumes I have of the Edge Chronicles. I feel a reading slump headed my way.

Owlizabeth Boooo reading slumps! Hope you find a winner! 5y

I feel like this is a very childish photo of me but hey ho. Gotta love being 27 and looking like I'm 12!

This is the second leg of the journey for me - train! - and a new book :)

I know why this series has different covers. It started out as book a. And I think the first 6 book or so look like a. The Edge Chronicles is one big series, but it's broken up into various sagas as you can see in c. However it has a Narnia problem with which order you should read them. Publication order, saga order, or strait time line order. Thank goodness the list them all on their website. #coverlove #changesedition

Linear Love the first, the second one looks way too much like a child's book versus like a middle school book, and the last looks like a cartoon poster. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Linear never thought of it that way. I like the last book but that may be because I think it more accurately describes the rest of the series when taken as a whole. 6y

These childhood favourites are my pick for #bookwithpictures 😊Beyond the Deepwoods is the very first book I remember being unable to put down. These are some of the books that made me into a reader, and are very close to my heart! #seasonsreadings2016

Redwritinghood Love these! I used to read them to my kids when they were little. 7y
missevievelyn @Redwritinghood yes!!! They're just so much fun! 7y

Another great series that's #fullofadventure is The Edge Chronicles. I used to read these aloud to my kids when they were younger and they loved them. Whenever the character Mugbutt appeared, I had to stop for the fit of giggles. Kid humor. #booktober

RealLifeReading This looks fun! What age were your kids when you first read this to them? 7y
Redwritinghood @RealLifeReading They were pre-school and primary school aged. I actually liked these a lot myself. Unique world and characters with great illustrations. 7y
InLibrisVeritas I read the first two of these as a kid and loved them! And then I gave them away😔 I need to find the others in the series and see how it ends. 7y
