The Land of Roar
The Land of Roar | Jenny McLachlan
12 posts | 5 read | 10 to read
The new middle-grade fantasy that will make you believe in magic! When Arthur and Rose were little, they were heroes in the Land of Roar, an imaginary world that they found by climbing through the folding bed in their grandads attic. Roar was filled with things they loved dragons, mermaids, ninja wizards and adventure as well as things that scared them (including a very creepy scarecrow. . .) Now the twins are eleven, Roar is just a memory. But when they help Grandad clean out the attic, Arthur is horrified as Grandad is pulled into the folding bed and vanishes. Is he playing a joke? Or is Roar . . . real? The Land of Roar is reminiscent of Peter Pan, The Neverending Story and Jumanji perfect for readers of Nevermoor and Wizards of Once. Jenny McLachlan is the author of several acclaimed teen novels including Flirty Dancing, Stargazing for Beginners and Truly, Wildly, Deeply. Before Jenny became a writer, she was Head of English in a secondary school; she now loves visiting schools as an author and delivering funny and inspiring talks and workshops. When Jenny isnt thinking about stories or writing stories, she enjoys living by the seaside, cycling and running over the South Downs. The Land of Roar is Jennys middle-grade debut.

This is probably one of the most imaginative children‘s books I‘ve read in a long time. Perfect for fans of Narnia, Peter Pan and Jumanji.
It contained siblings, fantasy worlds and a host of other great characters. Arthur is struggling with change and growing up. Rose (his twin sister) is growing up too fast but they end up returning to their childhood fantasy land - Roar.
The illustrations in this book are perfect, detailed and dark.

maich It sound great👍 3y

Next book to read....still going well with my reading goal for 2021 and not buying new books.....this one is a library book. 👍🏻

Moonprismpower Yay libraries! But also good job on sticking to your goal. As a librarian I think I‘ve bought ten new books recently. I am a glutton for them. 3y

1. I‘ve never met an author but there are so many I‘d love to meet and pick their brains.
2. No but tempted to so many times 🤣
3. I‘ve always wanted to go to Canada...Rocky mountains, Calgary, Quebec...my list could go on.
Great questions @Eggs

This was a sweet, funny and imaginative middle grade fantasy novel. My ten year old gives it a big thumbs up and I enjoyed reading it with her. I especially loved Win, the wizard ninja whose magic is less than reliable but always amusing. Looking forward to book 2 later this year.

Acclaimed YA author Jenny McLachlan‘s debut middle grade fantasy novel (gorgeously illustrated by Ben Mantle and the first of a duology) is a stunningly good read - moving, funny and with a lot to say about facing your fears, embracing the power of imagination and the destructive need to be cool with the ‘in crowd‘ it tips its hat at the Narnia and Peter Pan tradition, while updating it for a more tech savvy and less gender stereotyped readership.

Well I've finished this adventure and am very pleased to see there will be a sequel as I've really enjoyed this journey. Now just to persuade the fiance that I'll just have to buy another book as it's desperately required. Hey @Jackal121??? 😁😘📖❤️

Jackal121 Well you know how I feel about sequels and series. You have to read them all 4y
