Close Encounters of the Furred Kind: New Adventures with My Sad Cat & Other Feline Friends
Close Encounters of the Furred Kind: New Adventures with My Sad Cat & Other Feline Friends | Tom Cox
7 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
"Close Encounters of the Furred Kind" is the follow-up to the" Sunday Times" Top Ten Bestseller "The Good, The Bad, and the Furry." Like "The Good, The Bad, and the Furry, " it tells the story of Tom Cox's life with his charismatic cats--The Bear, Shipley, Ralph, and recent recruit Roscoe."Close Encounters of the Furred Kind" begins with a long, emotional goodbye to Norfolk, and continues with another amazing new lease on life for The Bear, the Benjamin Button of the cat world, among the bluebells and verdant hedgerows of Devon. Readers who became attached to The Bear's magical, owlish persona during his previous adventures will become more so here as he proves, once again, that he's a cat with endless secrets and significantly more than nine lives.

Thanks to reading the acknowledgments, I finally have a name for this genre: catoir (cat + memoir). I‘m a couple books behind still, but I‘m hoping that they appear under the Christmas tree in a few days, that is, if I can get one put up without the three of my own furred kind tearing it down. We‘ve not put one up for a couple years because they have kitten ambition in full-grown cat bodies.

Tom Cox comes from a gentle place, and his stories of his cats, his family, and other wildlife always feel like a balm against the troubles of the world. Reading this book now was a little bittersweet as two of Cox's menagerie have passed on this past winter, but it's still the sweetly enjoyable read at which Cox excels.

Located and eliminated the source of the weird smell under my bed and did my taxes, so I'm rewarding myself with chips, guacamole, lime pilsner, and Tom Cox and his lovely cats. #litsypartyofone

I love all of Tom Cox's books about his sad cat, The Bear, and his hilarious encounters with other cats and animals. This is a photo from his site of a cat who can't decide which book to read first. #funnybooks #cats #augustphotochallenge #augustofpages #day20

rockpools Hi @rubyslippersreads ! I know this is an old post, but sounds like you've read a few of these. I'm planning my Christmas shopping - will these make sense in any order or should I start at the beginning? Thanks everso! 7y
rubyslippersreads @RachelO I'd definitely start with the first one. And if these are a gift for someone who wants a sweet book about cats, this isn't it. But it is heartwarming and hilarious. 😸😸😸 7y
rockpools @rubyslippersreads Brilliant - thank you 😊And no, we weren't going for sweet. More 😼🌿😜😾 & funny. it's for a friend who got a Bengal rescue cat a couple of months ago. She's now having to move house to find somewhere more appropriate for his exploits/energy! 7y

The fourth book by Tom Cox on the subject of his wonderful cats The Bear, Ralph, Shipley, and Roscoe. The book is filled with house moves, cats, love, cats, new friends, cats, stories about Tom's dad, cats, and of course, cows. A wonderful read by a wonderful author and cat owner.
