P. D. James meets E. L. James in Under a Silent Moon, this first novel in an exciting British crime series a blend of literary suspense and page-turning thriller that introduces formidable Detective Chief Inspector Louisa Smith from suspense talent Elizabeth Haynes, author of the bestselling Into the Darkest Corner. In the crisp, early hours of an autumn morning, the police are called to investigate two deaths. The first is a suspected murder at a farm on the outskirts of a small village. A beautiful young woman has been found dead, her cottage drenched with blood. The second is a reported suicide at a nearby quarry. A car with a woman s body inside was found at the bottom of the pit.As DI Louisa Smith and her team gather evidence, they discover a shocking link between the two cases and the two deaths a bond that sealed their terrible fates one cold night, under a silent moon.In Under a Silent Moon, Elizabeth Haynes interweaves fictional primary source materials police reports, phone messages, interviews and multiple character viewpoints to create a sexy, edgy, and compulsively readable tale of murder, mystery, and unsettling suspense."

Mehso-so

A solid: Okay. A fast read so you don‘t feel like your spending too much time on a story that isn‘t moving. However, the plot line is just kind of dry and disjointed. The author focuses too hard on trying to stick to police protocol that she misses the catch that keeps you wanting to read more.

DebinHawaii Welcome to Litsy!! 🎉📚👍😀Hope you enjoy it here! 6y

Day 12 #AndItsAugust #NeedsMoreLove There are plenty of good British crime authors but Elizabeth Haynes is a favorite of mine who doesn't seem to get as much recognition as some others. I think her books need more love. She writes dark & twisty, whether standalones or her police procedural series (2 books so far). To illustrate the lack of love & recognition, I've been waiting for a new book from her & somehow missed that one came out last year.😬

elkeOriginal Which is your favorite or the best to start with? 7y
JaclynW I have the same question as @elkeo. ☺ 7y
DebinHawaii @elkeo @JaclynW Her first "Into the Darkest Corner" is really good (trigger warning for domestic violence). Human Remains is another of my favorites--really creepy. I like the series too--the first is the tagged book Under a Silent Moon. (edited) 7y

melbeautyandbooks Thanks for the reminder. I have read two of hers and I liked them. For some reason, I haven't read the rest even though they are on my TBR. 7y
MicheleinPhilly I have 2 of these that I have not yet read. Must rectify that. 7y
Ms_T I loved Into The Darkest Corner. I must read more of her books. 7y

Day 30 #MarchIntoReading #startswithuvw Looking through my stacks & read books to find titles that start with U, V & W was interesting. Plenty of W-titles, some U-titles, but all my V-titles were either vegan books or vegan/vegetarian cookbooks.😆 I need more V-title variety! These six are all books I have read and enjoyed. Bonus points for two Ws in Whistling Women! 😉
