When I was helping a patron at work, I noticed this mid-October bestseller list for 1966. I went back and made a copy in case any Littens liked old newspapers as much as I do. Have any of you read these popular 50-year-old books?

Oblomov26 Taipan is a good book 8y
Hobbinol I've read Shogun. And one day I'll get around to Taipan, I'm sure @Oblomov26 (By the way, I love the book Oblomov and think about it almost every morning before I decide it would be better for me to go in to work despite feeling like I'd rather stay in bed the rest of my life.) 😄 8y
rubyslippersreads I've read Valley of the Dolls, plus I remember my grandma having a copy of How to Avoid Probate (I had no idea what probate was 😄). 8y

Oblomov26 @Hobbinol part of the reason I chose the handle - I see too much of myself in that character and it serves as a reminder not to be Oblomov all the time 😜 8y
[DELETED] 3323341091 oh, how interesting - thanks for sharing this 😊. i have read Tai-Pan, Valley of the Dolls, The Adventurers, and Games People Play. 8y
shawnmooney I once spoke to William Masters on the phone! Anti-gay groups in Canada were using one of his studies in a distorted, homophobic way to fight against gay rights so I called him to get a quote - he was well into his 80s at the time, and none too happy to hear how his scholarship was being misused. I was pretty audacious, hey? This was in the early 1990s. 8y
BethFishReads I've read 3 of those. Probably in the late 70s 8y
CherylDeFranceschi I've only read Valley of the Dolls. 8y
quirkyreader I read Valley of The Dolls. 🐸🐙 8y
Hobbinol @shawnmooney I'm so impressed! 👏👏👏Were you a journalist? 8y
Hobbinol @rubyslippersreads 😂Hope she was able to avoid it! 8y
Hobbinol @BethFishReads @CherylDeFranceschi @quirkyreader @fern Apparently I'm the only one who hasn't read Valley of the Dolls😬! (The movie scared me.) Thanks so much for all your feedback and for always being so friendly🙂! 8y
shawnmooney No , but it was back in my queer activist days :) 8y
Hobbinol @shawnmooney Well, that's even more impressive then! 👍About the only thing I protest these days are people who want to limit my inactivist nature! 😂 (But when pushed I guess my lavender pen can scratch out a pretty mean letter, if I do say so myself.) 8y
ValerieAndBooks I saw some of these titles when researching for my #birthdaychallenge (read a book published each year I've been alive) but somehow missed seeing Giles the Goat Boy. Hmm. Since I already read Valley of the Dolls some years ago I was considering Wide Sargasso Sea for that year. 8y
Hobbinol @ValerieAndBooks What an interesting challenge! I'll be interested to hear how about your dip in the Sargasso.😊 8y
