Catching up on some graphic novel reading on my beautiful day off. Up next, this month‘s graphic novel book club pick.

The first book in what promises to be a fantastic adventure series. It reminds me a lot of the Tintin comics I read as a kid. Theres a great ebb and flow of action and tension. Larson has a good sense of when to add her narrative beats.

The book is a fantastic, all-ages adventure, particularly if you want a break from the plethora of fantasy & sci-fi stories.

Larson has created a great balance of exposition and visual story telling with this title.

Mock‘s illustrations are fun and vibrant. She does a fantastic job relating personality into each of her characters. I love her bold lines and colours. It really makes the story come alive. #comicsread2019

This book and its sequel are middle grade or fast reads for older kids. Twins Cleo and Alex go on an adventure looking for their missing father and escaping the street gang they ratted on in NYC. Globe-trotting, pirates, mystery, and some thought-provoking treatment of gender differences (cont in comments)

I liked this story, although graphic novels aren't really my favorite. It took me a while to get into it (although constant interruptions from kid and hubs played into that, too).
Twins Alex and Cleo need to beat feet out of NYC and have all sorts of adventures around the Western Hemisphere. Now I need the sequel!

Cleopatra and Alexander are in trouble. Trouble with the police, trouble with their 1860‘s street gang that they ratted out, and now there‘s trouble with a notorious pirate too.

This swashbuckling adventure is a great middle grade read, and soon I‘ll pick up the sequel.

This exciting graphic novel features twin 12 y.o. adventurers searching for their missing father cross country in 1860. I haven't read it, but my youngest really enjoyed it and just borrowed the sequel from the library. #kidlit #CompassPoints #JubilantJuly

This young reader graphic novel was quick and fun. It's 1860: a set of twins find themselves running from nefarious characters & separated in their adventure crossing the continent. Mystery, adventure, new climates and cultures, keep these stowaways on their toes. It's not deep, but full of action and art I quite like. Sets itself up for a book two! Hope Larson is fun and an author I will watch for - she did the Wrinkle in Time graphic adaptation!

So much story and so much potential! Excited to read more of this. Author Hope Larson had crafted an adventurous and introspective story while Rebecca Mock's illustrations give more dimension to the characters and plot.
