The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax
The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax | Dorothy Gilman
9 posts | 21 read | 3 to read
When Emily Pollifax answers the phone that Sunday morning, she quickly forgets all about her Garden Club tea that afternoon. For the voice on the other end belonged to a man she had never seen, a man from the CIA who asked her if she could leave immediately on a mission that would take her halfway across the world! What could Mrs. Pollifax say but yes?

Just as good as the first book, though Mrs. Pollifax is slightly more prepared this time. I've also noticed she seems to have a Bond-esque way of picking up random men throughout her travels. Lol
Lots of action. Lots of spy-related shenanigans. This would make a great movie. Looking forward to the next one. Recommend.

The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax was also my last book of the month for #BookSpinBingo (September 2020 edition). I definitely made use of those free spaces and managed a bingo!

I also just realized that I put the audio of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe in the free space and have a re-read of the print edition on October‘s list 🙈

A re-read I enjoyed more now than I did when I first read it. The helicopter scene near the end was my favourite 🚁

Indoor cat is shocked and appalled by being stuffed in a harness, but that's the only way he's allowed to join us reading outside.

rabbitprincess I'm cat-sitting this weekend, and the cat seems to feel quite betrayed that his mum and dad have left him behind and that I am in his house. The reproachful eyes I've been getting...! 😅 5y
esurient @rabbitprincess It's true! Expressing total censure, without a single sound uttered. 5y

Retirement is super boring and depressing for Mrs. Pollifax, until she accidentally joins the CIA. Not only does she become an ace spy, thwarting political plots around the globe, but she makes friends and falls in love whilst doing it. Not a bad way to spend your #goldenyears. #septembowie

Bluebird Lol. I also thought of the spunky Mrs Pollifax. Must have been creating my post as you finished yours! (edited) 7y
quietjenn @Bluebird great minds ... 😉 She's the best! 7y
mcipher I haven't read Mrs Pollifax in years, and I think I should remedy that. I love Dorothy Gilman!! 7y

Bluebird 😊. My grandmother introduced her to me more than 30 years ago. A few years ago I rediscovered the series on audiobook. Barbara Rosenblatt brings Emily Pollifax to life! 7y
Dragon Great choice! I read my Grandmother's Mrs. Pollifax books . I think there was a movie too. 7y
quietjenn @Dragon @Bluebird I love that you all discovered these via your grandmothers 💖 7y
quietjenn @mcipher yes! I've been saving the last few, but I think I must cave soon. 7y
mcipher I'm going to see if my library book sale has any. And if not get some elsewhere. I suddenly feel a deep need for Mrs. P books! ❤️ 7y

Another one of my all-time favorites. I collect all the Mrs. Pollifax that I find. But I love everything Dorothy Gilman wrote. Shown with my newly received cookie jar that belonged to my grandmother that was carefully (!!) brought home through 2 airplanes and airports. They both are comforts.

SusanInTiburon I like Mrs. Pollifax, too! Have you listened to any on audio? I like those a lot. 7y
Blueberry @SusanInTiburon Yes, I have. Barbara Rosenblat is such a good reader. 7y
