Challenge | Day 13

This time, I'm very late. But I've been extremely tired from work.

Just to record this apology, the books I should be reading.

I wasn‘t quite sure what this was about (it had Jane Austen in the title, ok? Lol) but this is a nice little book about writing/craft that takes its cues from Austen‘s work. It was fun to revisit key scenes (or minor ones, in some cases) using a writer‘s eye for analysis. I didn‘t try any of the writing exercises but there are MANY to attempt later.

If you love Austen and have an interest in writing, this is worth a read. Lots of references and passages from Austen's works to go along with the writing tips, as well as glimpses into Jane's real life.

Mehso-so

I'm wavering between so-so and pan for this one. I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read Jane Austen in the past (but then I probably wouldn't have read this book in the first place) or if there was some actual theoretical analysis of Austen's work rather than endlessly quoting from the novels. Even the exercise examples were bloated. There were excerpts from some letters that I hadn't seen before so that was interesting. Overall, meh.

This isn't what I thought it would be, which is fine. It seems, however, to be an excuse to quote swathes of Austen's novels. 🤔

Feels only right to wish a happy birthday to the woman who has brought so much enjoyment to the crazy world we live in. Happy 241st, Jane! "She is tolerable I suppose." #janeausten
