“There is no secret to happiness except learning to be content and wearing the badge that says ‘This is my unique life and no one else can live it‘.”

Beautiful story told in verse of Kara, a Chinese girl abandoned at birth, saved by an American woman in China who‘s old enough to be her grandma...so many secrets Kara wants to unravel

Told in poems, this novel is about a young Chinese girl raised by an American woman staying illegally in China. She grappled with her identity and discovered that love knows no boundary. We get a glimpse of the adoption red tapes, a time when China has a one-child policy. The author‘s experience working for 8 years in China and her actual adoption experience added authenticity. I was moved by the beautifully told story.

Told in poems, this tells the story of young orphaned girl in modern-day China who is adopted by an American woman. It delves into the loneliness of a pre-teen trying to make sense of her mother‘s behaviour and discovers love knows no boundaries.
