Van Gogh and Britain
Van Gogh and Britain | Vincent Van Gogh, Carol Jacobi
4 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Van Gogh and Britain at Tate Britain' will be the first major exhibition both to explore the impact of British culture on Vincent van Gogh and to trace the introduction of his art into Britain and its legacy in the works of British painters. Published to accompany the show, this lavishly illustrated publication illustrates fifty van Gogh paintings, and traces the story from the artist's obscure years in England in the 1870s through his growing influence and reputation to iconic status in the 1950s. These works are accompanied by paintings by British artists that affected him and which he in turn inspired.00Exhibition: Tate Britain, London, UK (27.03.-11.08.2019).

Saw the Van Gogh and Britain exhibit at the Tate. The first painting you see when you walk in is “The Arlésienne.” She is reading Uncle Tom‘s Cabin and Christmas Carol.

Breathtaking to have seen a starry night in person! Not strictly bookish but thought you guys would like to hear about it as I kind of group art, theatre and books together in my head. The Van Gogh and Britain exhibit at the Tate Britain is really well curated, showing Van Gogh in the context of his influences and followers and his place in society rather than the ‘lone wild genius‘ idea.

More pics on my insta if you‘re interested!
