My bookish spending was OUT OF CONTROL in February.

I wanted to make it all the way to March without buying a book for myself, but the local thrift store had a big sale today and I found an early Laini Taylor the library doesn't own. Oh well. 57 days ain't bad.

The Linnea Sinclair novels are for my mum, but let's be real: if she says they're good, I'm totally gonna borrow 'em.

I almost DNF this. I listened to the first few chapters and realized I didn‘t know what was going on and didn‘t care. However, I was driving and didn‘t have another book downloaded, so I continued, and I‘m glad I did. I liked the motley crew of characters - fairies, djinn, imps, crows, dragons - and the creation mythology. It could have used more character development, and the ending seemed a bit rushed, but overall it was an enjoyable fairytale.

If you're looking for Taylor's lyrical prose and intricate world building, you'll probably be disappointed. This one was alright, nothing spectacular. I picked it up after adoring her recent books, but this one wasn't up to snuff for me! Her other series set the bar too high I guess. Also WHY IS BOOK 2 SO HARD TO FIND!?!?

After I loved Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke & Bone series, I hunted down this, her #debutnovel.
It is still on my TBR but it was fun digging up previous books (this is part of a duet) once someone hits it big. It is a very different tale to her Smoke & Bone books, but it sounds fun if you like flying around with faeries. And honestly, who doesn't?

Not famous like her other series, but Laini Taylor's Dreamdark series is full of charm, danger, and beauty! She has taken the old fashioned Victorian-style fairy and made it fresh and wonderful via amazing character and world building. I hope she completes the rest of it one day! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
