Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos
Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos | R. L. LaFevers
7 posts | 15 read | 13 to read
Theodosia Throckmorton has her hands full at the Museum of Legends and Antiquities in London. Her father may be head curator, but it is Theo—and only Theo—who is able to see all the black magic and ancient curses that still cling to the artifacts in the museum. Sneaking behind her father’s back, Theo uses old, nearly forgotten Egyptian magic to remove the curses and protect her father and the rest of the museum employees from the ancient, sinister forces that lurk in the museum’s dark hallways.

I took the first of these books out of the library after seeing this ad for the new show on hbo max. I'm so glad I did! This is a fun series about a girl who lives in a museum and sees curses on ancient Egyptian artifacts. She meets a secret brotherhood and must convince her parent to travel to Egypt so she can save Britain. I'm super excited for the show now and will definitely be reading the rest of her adventures.

I re-read this 4-book series over the past week or so. When I read these previously, too much time had passed between reading each book for me to remember what happened in the previous one, so I wanted to read them back to back. Book 4 is not quite as good as the first 3. Theodosia is an entertaining character.

batsy I really enjoyed these books, but it's been awhile since I read them :) 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser Sounds interesting. Is this book for children or YA? 5y
Amie @Curiouser_and_curiouser It's a middle grade book, not teen. Probably would appeal to 4th-6th graders. 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @amie thank you, I have a girl in grade 4. I'll let her know of it :) 5y

If you love reading about Egyptian mythology and Victorian London, you will love this series. When her mother sends a cursed artifact to their museum, she immediately knows that she must get rid of it before her father or any of the museum workers touched it. She sets out in the middle of the night to do just that (that's the only time it will work!). What follows is a nail-biting, sarcastic read.

"This time we hadn't even managed a whole block before we heard the sounds of footsteps behind us. Honestly! Doesn't anyone in London have anything better to do than follow other people around?"

I enjoyed Theodosia so much! She is definitely a "wise child" trope but so well done. Think Indiana Jones meets Harriet the Spy. I've already ordered the next books!

Nebklvr Loved this! 8y
