Fires: Essays, Poems, Stories | Raymond Carver
3 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
More than sixty stories, poems, and essays are included in this wide-ranging collection by the extravagantly versatile Raymond Carver. Two of the stories—later revised for What We Talk About When We Talk About Love—are particularly notable in that between the first and the final versions, we see clearly the astounding process of Carver’s literary development. From the Trade Paperback edition.

I don't like Carver's fiction but I do like his poetry. 🤷

Being out in the field gave me more time to read than I could have hoped for. Every time I read Carver I‘m floored by the apparent simplicity of his stories that simultaneously tear up your heart and mind by the end.

SaraBeagle I 💜 Carver! 6y

"It's possible, in a poem or short story, to write about commonplace things and objects using commonplace but precise language, and to endow those things ... with immense, even startling power. That's the kind of writing that interests me." Hear, hear Mr Carver!
