Pickpick

Mark Doty is one of my favorite poets, but I‘ve actively avoided reading this for 15 years because it‘s considered a follow up to his 3rd book, My Alexandria which was all about his partner Wally‘s diagnosis with and decline from AIDS. It was a masterpiece, but reading it was brutal and I wasn‘t ready to revisit that. Atlantis is published the year after Wally‘s death, and the tone changes in this book. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

IndoorDame Mark has clearly stopped fighting, and started the process of saying goodbye and mourning. The metaphors here shift from Manhattan architecture and hospitals, to their second home in P-town, and the beauty of the natural world even as MA winter sets in and the plants die and the skies darken. #Booked2022 #MCOrAuthorLivingWithHIV/AIDSOrAboutTheAIDSEpedemic #Nonfiction2022 #ImOutOfYourComfortZone #LGTBQBookBingo #Nonfiction 2y
vivastory I saw Doty read years ago at AWP. It was incredible. 2y
IndoorDame @vivastory that sounds wonderful!! I‘d love to hear him read some day! He was friends with one of my poetry professors at college, so I always wished for a chance meeting, but alas… 2y
Cinfhen Sounds like a hard but meaningful read 💔 2y
