Kenna is tired of being "normal." The only thing special about her is that she isn't special at all. Which is frustrating when you're constantly surrounded by superheroes. Her best friend, her ex-boyfriend, practically everyone she knows has some talent or power. Sure, Kenna's smart and independent, but as an ordinary girl in an extraordinary world, it's hard not to feel inferior. So when three villains break into the lab where she interns, Kenna refuses to be a victim. She's not about to let criminals steal the research that will make her extraordinary too. But in the heat of battle, secrets are spilled and one of the villains saves her life. Twice. Suddenly, everything Kenna thought she knew about good and evil, heroes and villains is upended. And to protect her life and those she loves, she must team up with her sworn enemies on a mission that will redefine what it means to be powerful and powerless...

Major power outages in Md. Winds are super freaky. Hubby‘s out of town and generator is leaking gas out the bottom. So, we‘re hunkered down for a long night. Hoping to get some reading In with my book light.

Ms.Story Take care! 6y
AmberWB Oh no! Shockingly, we still have power. But who knows if we‘ll make it through the night.... 6y

Elizabeth2 We lost our power too. Nothing is open around us because there are so many power outages. Huge trees down everywhere in our neighborhood. Traffic is a nightmare because most lights are out and there are detours in place for all but one of the bridges into the next county. This is crazy! Glad you are safe and warm! 6y
Cortg @AmberWB Good luck! I hope your power stays on! 6y
Cortg @Ms.Story @ReadingSusan @aschermetz Thanks! We‘re hunkered down and I managed to get 50 pgs. read! 6y
Cortg @Elizabeth2 Ugh! Stay home if you can and be safe! 6y
Elizabeth2 @Cortg we are hunkered down. Camp out in the family room. Too many trees around our house. I‘ve been reading aloud by booklight to my 11 year old (and my hubby) while the older three play board games by candlelight. 6y

Sometimes an oversized truck snags the overhead power lines, and there's a live wire in the street and the police have blocked off your driveway, so you just decide you're going to spend the night in finishing your book club book.

ValerieAndBooks Yikes 😨! But a good excuse as any to stay in and read!! 7y
Snow Yay for oversized trucks! 7y

I ❤️ superhero books. Powerless did not disappoint. Tons of action--beginning to end--to keep readers hooked. Quick read too. My readers who enjoy strong character development might be a little put off, but that makes an interesting point we will explore. Hoping sequel lives up to the first, so I can add this to other series (Laybourne's Monument 14 or Barnes' The Naturals) I suggest to my readers who need a fast-paced, action-filled books read.

My school year begins soon. I'll have a new crop of 7th graders who call themselves non-readers. The comment I always see on my beginning of the year survey: reading is boring. For those students, I look for a book that immediately draws a reader into the action, showing them reading is far from boring. After 30 pages, Powerless could be one of those books. Only thing better than introducing a good book to a nonreader, introducing a good series.

Nearly 300 pages of superhero/villain/anything in between gold. Had to restrain myself from buying the next one.
