USA TODAY Bestseller and AGATHA AWARD Winner for Best First Novel FULL OF SIMMERING SUSPENSE AND INTRIGUE... "Imaginative, empathetic, genuine, and fun, Lowcountry Boil is a lowcountry delight." - Carolyn Hart, Author of What the Cat Saw "It's a simmering gumbo of a story full of spice, salt, heat and shrimp. She had me guessing, detouring for a few laughs then doubling back for another clue right until the last chapter." - The Huffington Post Private Investigator Liz Talbot is a modern Southern belle: she blesses hearts and takes names. She carries her Sig 9 in her Kate Spade handbag, and her golden retriever, Rhett, rides shotgun in her hybrid Escape. When her grandmother is murdered, Liz high-tails it back to her South Carolina island home to find the killer. She's fit to be tied when her police-chief brother shuts her out of the investigation, so she opens her own. Then her long-dead best friend pops in and things really get complicated. When more folks start turning up dead in this small seaside town, Liz must use more than just her wits and charm to keep her family safe, chase down clues from the hereafter, and catch a psychopath before he catches her. Praise for LOWCOUNTRY BOIL: "Plenty of secrets, long-simmering feuds, and greedy ventures make for a captivating read...Boyer's chick lit PI debut charmingly showcases South Carolina island culture." - Library Journal "Imaginative, empathetic, genuine, and fun, Lowcountry Boil is a lowcountry delight." - Carolyn Hart, Author of What the Cat Saw "Twisted humor has long been a tradition in Southern literature (maybe it's the heat and humidity), and Boyer delivers it with both barrels. In lesser hands, all the hijinks could be distracting, but not in Lowcountry Boil. Boyer's voice is so perky that no matter what looney mayhem her characters commit, we happily dive in with them. An original and delightful read." - Betty Webb, Mystery Scene Magazine "Lowcountry Boil avoids caricatured Southerners and pulls the reader in like the draw of a riptide with a keeps-you-guessing mystery full of romance, family intrigue, and the smell of salt marsh on the Charleston coast. A welcome visit home with people you want to know and, in some cases, are glad you aren't related to. A fun summer read " - Cathy Pickens, Author of the Southern Fried Mysteries and Charleston Mysteries "Lowcountry Boil bubbles with all the ingredients of a great Southern mystery: A feisty firecracker of a main character, a magnolia-scented atmosphere, and pages full of simmering suspense and intrigue." -- Karin Gillespie, Bestselling Author of The Sweet Potato Queens' First Big-Ass Novel (with Jill Conner Browne) and the Bottom Dollar Girls series "Humor, a little romance, a charming location, and an intelligent detective with a few idiosyncrasies. Top it off with a murder mystery with a host of suspects. Lowcountry Boil might be Susan M. Boyer's first mystery, but it's an outstanding debut. Here's hoping Liz Talbot mysteries become a staple in the mystery field." - Lesa Holstine, Lesa's Book Critiques Books in the Liz Talbot Mystery Series: LOWCOUNTRY BOIL (#1) LOWCOUNTRY BOMBSHELL (#2) LOWCOUNTRY BONEYARD (#3) April 2015 Part of the Henery Press Mystery Series Collection, if you like one, you'll probably like them all...

Postcards From Stella Maris is not in the Litsy database, so I tagged the first book in the Liz Talbot series. Postcards is a collection of short stories featuring the characters from that series. It‘s darker and sadder in tone than the books usually are, and we learn a little more about earlier events in Liz‘s life. We also get a peek into the mind of Colleen, Liz‘s ghost in the series, before she became a ghost.

#Top20Series #20Series20Days #Day14

This is a fun series: mysteries with a touch of the supernatural, and set in one of my favorite parts of the country. Liz Talbot is a PI who investigates some unusual cases. Very enjoyable.

Liz Talbot is a PI who's drawn back to her hometown on a South Carolina island after her Grandma is murdered. For Liz, going home means not only facing Gran's funeral but facing the ghosts of relationships past. The only thing that is a little outside the box, but is still woven in well, is that Liz is being guided by a childhood friend...who happened to die when they were teens, so there's a small element of the paranormal involved. Great read!

I chose this one for my book set in my current state for the #litsyreadingchallenge . It was an enjoyable cozy-ish mystery with a ghost, which was a little odd. The kick ass main character and her family were quite funny, and I love a small town mystery, but sometimes there was just a little too much going on all at once!

I‘ve read two other books in this series, but this is actually the first. The others were excellent, even out of order, but having now read this, I wish I‘d started here. This is a fun series that‘s a mashup of cozy mystery, Southern chick lit, and paranormal. It sounds crazy but it works. Liz Talbot is rapidly turning into one of my favorite characters. Plus, any book that mentions Hyman‘s Seafood in Charleston goes to the top of the list😄

OK....this one was just so-so. Kind of convoluted, kind of out there, and I wasn't really drawn in by the protagonist (or the plot). Not sure that I'll continue on with this series. Maybe time to move on....

Not sure if I'll continue with this series. There were some interesting characters, including Liz, but also some annoying elements: the romance felt shoehorned and I wasn't feeling the "no criminals on our perfect island" thing.
