Pickpick

Our library‘s book club pick to be discussed tomorrow. I listened to the audio performed by the author which was very well done. Readers are introduced to an eccentric cast of characters from a small mountain town in Virginia through the perspective of 35 year old Ave Maria. She‘s “the town spinster” at her age, in 1978! I appreciated the setting and found-family feel to this, but it felt a bit dated as it was written in 2000, and a bit cheesy.

Beautifully written, with a strong sense of place and realistic characters dealing believably with real emotions. I loved the way the characters supported each other.

Thank you, @CBee , for hosting #TBRtarot . This one has been on my TBR for far too long, and the “It‘s” prompt for December finally made me read it! Yay!

CBee Hooray! You‘re very welcome! Looking forward to seeing what card we get for January! 1y

I found one for our December It/It's prompt! And a blurb from Whoopi Goldberg, no less!

22 #29 Mylo and I took my mom on a road trip this weekend. I got to share one of my favorite books with her via audible. Adriana Trigiani has a new book coming out in a few weeks. I can‘t wait!

2020 #61 My favorite book. I needed comfort today. I‘m still recovering from Covid. Listening to Adriana Trigiani read this is just such a pleasure. Sometimes I think I am totally Ava Maria.

Being stuck in the house is driving my family crazy. So we went to the lake for a picnic today. We properly social distanced but got some fresh air and reading time in!

Reecaspieces One of my favorites 4y
Copwithabook @Reecaspieces I‘ve seen it on several reading lists and decided to give it a try. Glad to see you also recommend it 😊 4y

I read this book (and the series) at just the right time in my life to touch my very soul. I mentioned to a friend that I was reading it. She exclaimed “Oh my goodness! You ARE Ava Maria Mulligan!” I love it when that happens. And I am kinda Ava Maria.

Day 13 & 14 of #adventrecommends I read these two series years apart, & they are very different but both have memorable characters. I love the small town of Big Stone Gap. There‘s one book in the series I don‘t like as much, but overall, it‘s great. The Valentine trilogy is about a small, family-owned shoe company. Both series travel to Italy. @emilyrose_x
