This was a fun little middle grade mystery with a medieval/fantasy flavor. Ghostly appearances in a castle filled with secret passages, a scheming royal advisor, a magician called in to prove himself by unraveling the mystery, and the servant caught in the middle of it all: not super deep, but fun. And a gorgeous cover!

I‘m excited about the #MiddleGradeMay readathon this weekend! I‘ll be reading from the above choices—or maybe some others depending on my mood. 😁

I like the idea of reading the three across the bottom…with a midnight & magic theme! Especially because Midnight Magic is my May #DoubleSpin. Door in the Wall may help me to a #BookSpinBingo, though, and Akata Woman will need to go back to the library soon, so I‘ll just see where my reading takes me!

SpeculativeFemale I absolutely LOVED Akata Woman. One of my favorites of what I've read so far this year, for sure. 2y

For a children's mystery book this book is amazing! Love the mystery, the suspense, the "magic", and especially the magician's boy! There is a prequel but I wish there were sequels.

annkuch13 Ah! I loved this one when I was little! 7y
