The Oddmire, Book 1: Changeling
The Oddmire, Book 1: Changeling: Changeling | William Ritter
7 posts | 4 read | 15 to read
Magic is fading from the Wild Wood. To renew it, goblins must perform an ancient ritual involving the rarest of their kinda newborn changeling. But when the fateful night arrives to trade a human baby for a goblin one, something goes terribly wrong. After laying the changeling in a human infants crib, the goblin Kull is briefly distracted from his task. By the time he turns back, the changeling has already perfectly mimicked the human child. Too perfectly: Kull cannot tell them apart. Not knowing which to bring back, he leaves both babies behind. Tinn and Cole are raised as human twins, neither knowing what secrets may be buried deep inside one of them. Then when they are twelve years old, a mysterious message arrives, calling the brothers to be heroes and protectors of magic. The boys must leave behind their sleepy town of Endsborough and risk their lives in the Wild Wood, crossing the perilous Oddmire swamp and journeying through the Deep Dark to reach the goblin horde and discover who they truly are. In The Oddmire 1: Changeling, the New York Times bestselling author of the Jackaby series brings to life a bold new adventure, the first in a series about monsters, magic, and mayhem.

A really great book to read with your kids. A really great read for middle grade kids that may feel like they don't yet have a tribe or don't belong. A book everyone can find a piece of themselves in.

These inseparable brothers learn that they neither have to look identical nor share the same DNA to be bonded and family. It merely takes love and light to drive out the dark.

I'm excited to read these stories with my own little goblins.

Omg ow my heart at this cuteness. It's like if Molly Weasley was a single mother to Fred & George but one of them was a changeling!

So even though this book is HIGHLY OVERPRICED in Canada ($25 for a damn middle grade?! Really?!), I'm happy to own this. I'm such a fan of Ritter's writing but especially his characters. I'd truely be shocked if you liked Jackaby and didn't like this.

Wonderful.

Twins, one is a human, one is a changeling. Everybody knew this from the night the changeling appeared in the cot. Now, 13 years later, the goblins need their changeling back.
Since neither of the boys knows who is the changeling, they both set off to cross the oddmire.

Fantastic start to a new series.

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I love this author! ❤️ 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Eeek! I just finished the Jackaby series... and probably need this immediately! Is it very witty? Jackaby had me giggling with its witty banter... 5y
julesG @thegirlwiththelibrarybag it's witty. It's targeted towards middle grade / 10-12(?), though. 5y
GingerAntics That sounds fun. 5y

Good Morning Littens!

Early morning reading.

Have to reread the last chapter. My kindle headbutted me a few times last night before I eventually put it away.

This story is very good. I like the writing a lot, even though it's a children's book.

Look what I got through NetGalley.

About a third into it and love it.

@Schnoebs might use it for an #SFFTBRChallenge prompt, just not sure which one. Have used the children's book one already.

Schnoebs Oh it looks so cute!!!! I‘ll have to keep an eye out for it when it come out! 5y
