Of all the companies affected by the attacks of 11 September, none was more devastated than Cantor Fitzgerald, the financial services conglomerate, who lost 658 people. CEO Howard Lutnick survived only because he had taken his son to school that day. His brother and best friend were not so lucky. his firm, and how he was able to rebuild the company as a tribute to those who died. Astonishingly, some rival companies tried to put them out of business, while others nearly killed them with kindness, offering Cantor Fitzgerald work that there was no one left to do. In the end, the company survived because all who worked there knew that it was the best way they could help their lost friends and colleagues.

Thanks for putting this on my radar @Reviewsbylola !

This is a look at one specific element of the 9-11 story, the loss of 658 employees by one company, Cantor Fitzgerald. The Chairman lost his brother and many friends but was vilified by certain sections of the media when trying to do his best for the families of those lost.

A fascinating account with so many personal stories, heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting.

I just ran out the limit on IG writing a review for this one, so suffice to say I am struggling with Litsy‘s limit right now. 😂

I will just say that this is an important piece of history and an excellent example of narrative nonfiction done right. I can‘t recommend it highly enough and I‘m glad Howard Lutnick had the foresight to memorialize their experience in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. Never forget. ❤️

#bathandbook tonight. I‘m fascinated by the personal stories of 9/11, so when I saw this one in a LFL earlier today, I was ecstatic, especially since this title had slipped my radar.

JanuarieTimewalker13 I think I will have to read both books. I worked downtown (55 Water) but I had gotten really sick in July and was on leave,Had I been well, I‘d be in the midst of it. The WTC made me dizzy on a good day...used to take PATH in from Hoboken. I never completely felt safe after ‘93 (although I was not working day at the time). One woman‘s advice: AlWAYS wear your sneakers commuting. And I always did. She had been in the ‘93 bombing. 3y

JanuarieTimewalker13 You‘re welcome. Yes, that illness was a bad thing that ended up being good in the end. Strange days. Living is exhausting. Now I‘m exhausted bc somehow day 3 of my first dose of Moderna hit me like a ton of bricks. Smh. I can‘t even imagine what COVID would‘ve done. You stay well and take good care of yourself❤️ 3y

Found the sweetest LFL today in Wheeling, WV. It had an impressive selection of books and I ended up finding two that interested me (and many more that I‘d already read!), including the tagged book.
