This reminded me so much of elementary school in the 80s, both the subject and the choose-your-own format. It's not great literature and although the story doesn't specify, the gender of the "you" is almost certainly male (which isn't a problem, per se, just a little narrow), but it's fun for what it is.

This is from the Level 5 Build Your Library booklist. And it's my February #doublespin! #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

ImperfectCJ And constantly going back and starting again with different choices is the perfect read for Groundhog Day! 3y

Well, that was...a thing 😂 Read this one out of sheer nostalgia. And it pretty much lived up to my expectations. I just wonder how much children actually enjoy this series.

This was my #readerschoice for the #BBRC #birthandbeyondreadingchallenge.

This was such a fun little book. I managed to make it to the "right" ending after only a few mishaps (I did manage to avoid dying of dysentery). Thanks @Peddler410 for making me aware that these exist.

Melissa_J I loved playing Oregon Trail when I was in middle school (many, many years ago). The book sounds fun! 5y
Traci1 @Melissa_J I loved the game too (and Carmen Sandiego - which has a new CYOA book series also). 5y
marleed My son was obsessed with the Oregon Trail game. On a vacation as we drove 80mph across All Day Nebraska (Willa Cather), he‘s looking out the window and explains, Look, There‘s Chimney Rock! Oh yeah, we knew that (not)! We stopped. 5y
gilroyc The return of the CYOA books. Wow. I remember those from when I was in elementary and middle school... 5y

Who remembers the 80‘s computer game? 😊 I‘ve known about these for awhile but just picked up book one today. My daughter says her teacher had the play the computer game earlier this year 🙂

Traci1 I had this game and Carmen San Diego when I was young. That was it for video games. And I loved them both sooo much. I tried so hard to get my kids into both of them, but compared to today's games, I guess they don't hold the same appeal. I still love them both though. Didn't know there were books. Are they like Choose Your Own Adventures? 5y
Peddler410 @Traci1 These are EXACTLY like Choose Your Own Adventure — which I also had as a kid. Carmen Has a Book too! 5y
Traci1 I found 3 of these on Thriftbooks this morning and may have ordered them...even though I told myself I wasn't buying any books any time soon. When my husband asks what happened to my will power I'm gonna blame you. 😉 5y

There is a choose-your-own-adventure series based off the computer game The Oregon Trail! As soon as I learned about this I immediately ordered all 4 from my library system. They were fun to read and surprisingly well based in real choices you'd have to make. And of course "You have died of dysentery" is an outcome, but hopefully you make it all the way ?

Peddler410 I just got book one today ... I saw SIX at the book store. 5y
ralexist @Peddler410 - I'm missing some! Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to see if I can track the other two down. 5y
