NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING GERARD BUTLER AND GARY OLDMAN A submarine captain races to prevent World War III in this thrilling adventure. Below the polar ice cap, an American nuclear submarine moves quietly in the freezing water, tailing a new Russian sub. But the usual, unspoken game of hide-and-seek between opposing captains is ended when the Americans hear sounds of disaster and flooding, and the Russian sub sinks in a thousand feet of water. The American sub rushes to help, only to join its former quarry in the deep. The situation ignites tensions around the world. As both Washington and Moscow prepare for what may be the beginnings of World War III, the USS Toledo--led by young, untested Captain Joe Glass--heads to the location to give aid. He soon discovers that the incident was no accident. And the men behind it have yet to make their final move. A move only Glass can stop. Previously Published As Firing Point

71/100 If you are a fan of the Tom Clancy novel of the late 80s - early 90s, this is the book for you. I felt such a wave of deja vu, it was like discovering a lost Clancy novel. The book is a chunkster, 692 pages, but it's worth the time. There's two stories intertwined: A mIlitary general stages a coup to overthrow the Russian government and replace the president with military dictatorship, while his cohorts plan to crash the American ⬇️

There's a lot of action, and lots of shifting povs as both the military and civilians try to stop a situation that could start WWIII. Not to knock the writers, but this is such classic Clancy style of writing, I think he should have gotten a thank you in a dedication. 4.5/5 ⭐ #Read2025 2mo

My first chunkster of 2025. 692 pages. It definitely gives me Tom Clancy vibes, especially The Hunt for Red October (obviously) and Red Storm Rising. I didn't see the movie, but I might try after I finish the book.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

Oh man, there are so many little stories involved in this book! I was wondering, once I only had 100 pages left, how the authors would tie everything up and together, but they did it! Really good story. Lots of technical terms (it's a lot of time on submarines, it's to be expected), but still easily read. Can't wait to see the movie!

Been a while since I've read an adult book, and I was getting bogged down in fantasy novels again, so it's time to switch it up!
