Blame This on the Boogie
Blame This on the Boogie | Rina Ayuyang
8 posts | 4 read | 11 to read
The true story of how Hollywood musicals got one person through school, depression, and the challenges of parenthood Inspired by the visual richness and cinematic structure of the Hollywood musical, Blame This on the Boogie chronicles the adventures of a Filipino American girl born in the decade of disco who escapes lifes hardships and mundanity through the genres feel-good song-and-dance numbers. Rina Ayuyang explores how the glowing charm of the silver screen can transform reality, shaping a persons approach to childhood, relationships, sports, reality TV, and eventually politics, parenthood, and mortality. Ayuyangs comics are as vibrant as the movies that she loves. Her deeply personal, moving stories unveil the magic of the world around usrendering the ordinary extraordinary through a jazzed-up song-and-dance routine. Ayuyang showcases the way her love of musicals became a form of therapeutic distraction to circumnavigate a childhood of dealing with cultural differences, her struggles with postpartum depression, and an adulthood overshadowed by an increasingly frightening and depressing political climate. Blame This on the Boogie is Ayuyangs ode to the melody of the world, and shows how tuning out of life and into the magic of Hollywood can actually help an outsider find her place in it.

This was a cute comic with a unique bright colorful style. The story is about Rina's childhood, obsession with Dancing with the Stars and more. Plus I got the Litsy mug I won today in the mail, I can't wait to use it!

WanderingBookaneer Hey! I‘m your Jolabokaflod match. I sent the package last week. (I was looking for the receipt with the tracking number and I seem to have lost it. 😔) Have you received it? If not, I still have time to buy you a book from Amazon and ship it directly to you. 1y

Shadowfat @WanderingBookaneer do you remember when the estimated arrival date was? As of yesterday I didn't get it but I won't be home until midnight to check today's mail. It could just be delayed too, I think the post office is backed up 1y
WanderingBookaneer I thought today or tomorrow, but I‘m not really sure. I had the flu and it is all a blur. 1y
MaleficentBookDragon @WanderingBookaneer. It looks like @Shadowfat 's package made it to my house by mistake. I'l send it out tomorrow. You'll have it in time for Russian Christmas. Yes that's a real thing; it's on January 7th 1y
