4 star Read. A y/a murder mystery. Beginning was a little slow and confusing but I really enjoyed the second half . Everything wrapped up nicely in the end . ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Because I‘m doing the same book that I did last time, the summary has not changed very much. 5 teens supposedly all have some sort of link to a person‘s death that happened at a party one year ago, and now exactly one year later, a mysterious person has brought them all to a mansion where they will compete in a murder mystery dinner for a scholarship worth 50 000 dollars.

Ally.Kortt However, everything is not what it seems to be, and everyone is going to have to tell the truth about that night if they all want to make it out alive. I‘m now at a point in the book where they have made it to the mansion and things are starting to happen. Everyone believes that the weird things that are happening are just a part of the dinner experience, but are still skeptical and suspicious about what‘s going on behind closed doors so to speak. 2y
Ally.Kortt Again, if you are interested in mystery books that give you a good thrill and keep you guessing, this would be a good book for you. The point of view in the book is first person, however there are 5 main characters and each chapter switches between them, so everyone is given a chance to provide their own thoughts and opinions on their current situation. 2y
Ally.Kortt When the chapter provides a spotlight on a specific character, their pronouns are always ones like “I” or “me” and everyone else is “he”, “she”, or “they”, and that goes for each character in the book when they get to give their point of view. They‘re also only aware of their own thoughts, and not anyone else‘s. 2y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Ally! Thank you for clarifying the POV as it seems like it may have been a 3rd person until you explained how it was a first person. 6/6 2y

I haven‘t gotten very far into the book, but the main plot is that 5 teenagers all went to a party a year ago where someone ended up dying at that party. Then, a year after that event took place, those 5 teens each get an invitation to an isolated mansion where they will all compete at a murder mystery themed dinner for a scholarship worth 50,000 dollars.

Ally.Kortt However, they soon realize that this is all not what it seems, and that someone has brought them there in order to get the truth about what really happened that night, even if it means doing whatever it takes to get that information. So, if they all want to make it out alive, they‘re either going to have to fess up, or let their lies destroy them all. 2y
Ally.Kortt If you like a shorter read and are interested in murder mystery or thriller books, then I think this would be a good book for you. I‘ve only just gotten past the character Introduction chapters, but a theme that I have noticed so far has to do with the effects of guilt on the mind, which is also one similar to Macbeth. 2y
Ally.Kortt The characters keep bringing up what happened during that party, and how they just can‘t move in about what happened no matter how hard they try. All of these characters supposedly have something to do with this person‘s death, so I think that they all feel guilty about what they contributed to that night. 2y
MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Ally! Cute dog! It sounds like a great book! 6/6 2y

The premise for this story is so cool! Imagine if Pretty Little Liars and Clue had a mash up, this is kinda what you would get. I'm in the middle ground with it. While I loved the idea of the plot, and the characters were well crafted, I felt lost in the setting at times. Still, I enjoyed it for the most part and would read more from this author. 3⭐

Was unsure about this one for quite a chunk of it, found the characters annoying but then when it all came together towards the end it was quite good

This was the second audiobook I‘ve finished, and, again, I really wish I‘d have read it instead of listening to it (it took me several months to finish). It seemed like a fun YA mystery thriller. There was a lot going on, and I feel I lost a lot in translation with the frequent gaps and breaks I took in listening to this. I liked it enough to read another of her books.

Chelsea Pitcher‘s YA murder mystery is THE BREAKFAST CLUB meets CLUEDO but for me the prose was overwrought and purple, the plot relies both on contrivance and implausibility while the characters are little more than broad brush caricatures who behave in ways that require you to suspend disbelief (while one character could be cut without making any difference to the overall read) such that I found the book to be a chore to get through.

To fans of 'one of us is lying' ignore the sticker on the front. This is nothing like the one of us books which were brilliant. In this I found the characters under developed and unlikeable, over complicated storyline and finally the god awful writing. Full of twee clichés, cheesy & over romanticised narrative. I gave up because I couldn't bear having to pick it up again. Swerve this, don't be fooled by the alleged similarities to Karen McManus.

I really tried to like this (yet another) YA teen thriller.

I like d the plot, but not the execution of it, just seemed over complicated for the sake of it. Characterizations were lacking. It did get better towards the end but not by much.

The UK cover has the ' if you liked One of Us is Lying' which in my opinion isa much better book that this.

Another holiday read to leave at the hotel.

5 teenagers receive an invitation to a scholarship contest with a difference. Instead of money, they are playing for their lives.

I love good thrillers but this one didn‘t live up to my hopes. The story was muddled at times, but the main issue was that I didn‘t care for the main characters. A big case of instalove didn‘t help either. 3⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Simon & Schuster UK Children‘s, for the opportunity to review an ARC.

All I want to do is read my book but The Goonies is on and apparently it is completely unacceptable that I have made it to this stage of my life and have never seen it. Plus side: BF has been driving me nuts with "Hey you guys" for years and I've finally discovered the source ?

Melissa_J What?? You‘ve never watched The Goonies??? One of my favourites from when I was a kid (along with Adventures in Babysitting and Gremlins). I hope you like it 😊 6y
tournevis Goonies!!! 6y
mcipher @Melissa_J Adventures in Babysitting!! I made my husband and son watch it and they didn‘t get the appeal but I still loved it for the 8000th time. 😆 6y

AndreaReads @Melissa_J Yes!!! Goonies and Adventures! But swap Gremlins with Three Amigos and you‘ve got my top fave movies when I was a kid!!! 6y
FantasyChick @Melissa_J The amount of movies I should have watched in the 80's and haven't yet would blow your mind, lol. I didn't mind Goonies but I think I would have liked it more if I had grown up with it like every other normal person my age. I'm with you on Gremlins though!! Also, I've never seen Adventures in Babysitting either. 😖 I know, I suck @AndreaReads @mcipher @tournevis 6y
AndreaReads @FantasyChick 🤭 Just kidding! There‘s plenty of time for bad 80s movies!!! 6y
