Nagata Kabi is frank about her struggles with depression, self-acceptance, familial strife, career anxieties, and alcohol abuse in these autobiographical comics. She‘s often really, really hard on herself as she chronicles her life as it happens, sans filter. To be honest, I couldn‘t read either volume straight through because they depressed the hell out of me, but I‘m glad we‘ve got her voice—and that she‘s doing better by the epilogues.

A Japanese #lesbian #manga artist writes diary entries to her future self about her struggles with loneliness and mental heath in this moving #nonfiction memoir. I like this volume even better than her previous autobiographical success, My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness, because this one is less frantic and I feel more understanding for her point of view. #LGBT #graphicnovel #translation

Lindy It was interesting to read this back to back with a novel about a French lesbian interacting with her future/past self: 5y

I don‘t want to keep feeding into the idea that all families love each other, that the household is a place of love.

The author shows herself getting bent out of shape, worrying about her mother‘s reaction to her autobiographical manga.

“As always, I just can‘t appreciate the happiness that‘s right in front of me.”

(First time I‘ve seen this thing 🎊 when it isn‘t an emoji. What is it called?)

BlameJennyJane Good question! No clue what it is called. Lol 5y

What you want to do and what you can do are different things. I think “doing what you can” makes you a pro, and then you grow to love it.

(That crumpled heart of hers… 😭)
