8 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
The first in a brand-new series from New York Times bestselling author Sheila Connolly! Katherine Hamiltons goal in high school was to escape from her dead-end hometown of Asheford, Maryland. Fifteen years later shes got a degree in hospitality management and a great job supervising every aspect of the day-to-day operations of a high-end boutique hotel on the Baltimore waterfront. Then her high school best friend asks her to come talk with the town leaders of Asheford, but she wont say why. Kate cant cut her last link to her past, so she agrees to make the short trip across the state to Asheford. Once Kate arrives, the town council members reveal that their town is on the verge of going bankrupt, and theyve decided that Kates skills and knowledge make her the perfect person to cure all their ills. The town has used its last available funds to buy the huge Victorian mansion just outside of town, hoping to use it to attract some of the tourists who travel to visit the nearby Civil War battle sites. Kate has less-than-fond memories of the mansion, for personal reasons, but to make matters worse, the only person who has presented a possible alternate plan is Cordelia WalkerKates high school nemesis, who had a hand in driving Kate away from Asheford so many years. But a few days later Kate receives a call from the policeCordelia has been found dead on the mansion property, and Kate is all-but certain that her name is high on the suspect list. She finds herself juggling the murder investigation and her growing fascination with the magnificent old house that turns out to be full of long-hidden mysteries itself. Kate knows she must clear her name and save her townbefore she ends up behind bars.

Kicking 2022 off the same way I ended 2021, by really dedicatedly diving into the stacks upon stacks of books I own. This is fine so far, but it‘s kind of crawling; also, the exact same paragraph appears within two pages of each other at one point and so I‘m salty — who tf didn‘t catch that during editing???? #murderinthemansion #sheilaconnolly #victorianvillagemysteries #cozymysteries

This is the first book I have read by this author. It was a cozy mystery and very light. I did figure out who the murder was before the end, though. Shelia Connolly left it opened at the end, so you don't know if Kate saved the town or not. Have to read the next in the series to find out, which I will do, when it comes out.

I enjoyed this first book in a series. Kate Hamilton loses her hotel job in Baltimore. Her friend from high school contacts her to help save the small town they grew up in. The mean girl from high school gets killed and Kate wants to figure out who killed her. I look forward to other books in this series.

Mehso-so

This is the first in a new series from this author, and my first of her books to read. Maybe I‘m simply not the audience for cozy mysteries, but the MC was a bit irritating to me, the murder a bit lame/underwhelming and the murderer fairly obvious to me. There was a bit of interesting history included, but overall this did not capture my attention well enough to continue with the series. 3/5⭐️

FeastOfFiction My daughter is going to be a college freshman in the fall too! It‘s a bittersweet time! 6y
JoScho Oh that seems like a heavy load! 6y
robinb @FeastOfFiction I know! Is she your youngest too? 6y

robinb @JoScho it does to me too, but there are a couple in there that aren‘t supposed to be too hard, so fingers crossed he‘s not overloaded himself! 🤞🤞 His adviser seemed to think he could handle it. 😳🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
JoScho I‘m sure he can and he can always drop add if he gets the syllabus info and it seems too much. Is he going away to school? 6y
robinb @JoScho that‘s what I was thinking too! 👍😊 Just 4 hours, in-state...but it FEELS like so much farther. 😢 6y
JoScho I know! It don‘t have kids but I remember it was very hard when my mom left me at college. We are here for you 💜 6y
robinb @JoScho thanks so much, Jody! 🤗🤗 I appreciate my Litten support! 6y
SilversReviews CONGRATS!! That looks like a heavy schedule and load....17 credits is a lot. 6y
robinb @SilversReviews it is. He was aiming more for 15-16, but the way the numbers worked out it was either 14 or 17...he went with the 17, being the over achiever that he is. 🙄😬 We‘ll hope for the best. 6y
SilversReviews @robinb I will hope for the best too. He can do it. 😊 😊 6y
FeastOfFiction @robinb No she is my oldest so this will be my first time going through it. She‘s fiercely independent so she‘ll do fine, but it‘ll be so weird for us! 6y
robinb @FeastOfFiction This is our second and final time. Our daughter was also very independent but also more of an introvert, whereas our son is more of a homebody but more extroverted (if that makes sense 🤣). Best wishes to your daughter! It‘s hard at first, but as long as our daughter was happy, so were we...it makes all the difference for your peace of mind. 😊👍 6y
robinb @SilversReviews thank you! 😊👍🤞 6y
FeastOfFiction @robinb You‘re exactly right. I know she‘ll have a great time! 6y

1. #ARCs without covers drive me nuts whether e-book or print. Like this current cozy, there's a cover pic on NetGalley so I think it should also be on the book. 😣
2. I binge-watched the first 4 episodes of The Handmaid's Tale--season 1, I'm late to the party.😱
3. Silver
4. Cold fresh fruit like 🍉🍓🍍🍒frozen 🍇& ice cream sandwiches or bars.😋
5. Hmm... not sure. 🤔

My coffeeshop breakfast. 🥑🍞decently drizzled👍😆

laundry_piles The Handmaid's Tale is SO good! I just started Alias Grace last night on Netflix which is another one by Atwood. 6y
DebinHawaii @Liatrek Truer words were never spoken! 😆❤️ 6y
DebinHawaii @laundry_piles It is good. I knew it would be but just had to be in the mood for it! And I was trying to reread the book first but that didn't happen. I've not read Alias Grace though--I'll look into it. 👍👍 6y
