I guess I‘ve been on a Scientology theme for a minute. This was only my 3rd book on the topic and it is interesting to combine the three together. This book was a unique perspective as the author was involved for many years, is father of current leader, and escaped from the compound he was living in on base. Interesting topic, crazy stories, and slightly quirky author.

⭐️ I‘m having trouble understanding why this was even published. Perhaps Mr. Miscavige needed to supplement his Exer-Genie income? 🤷🏼‍♀️ This could‘ve been an intriguing article, but as a book, it was unbearably boring. There are plenty of other Scientology memoirs out there that are much better.

@britt_brooke Look what I'm reading, have you read it? My husband found it on the shelf at the library & brought it home for me. The person before made notes in the margins, almost seems like fact checking. Underlining passages and timeline math. If I see anything interesting, I'll take picks of the notes. I just wonder who did it! So interesting!

I don‘t really have anything for the #scientology prompt, other than that I have had this book on my TBR for a long while and I have watched several episodes of Leah Rimini‘s show. I find it incredibly disturbing to hear the stories of those who have left, especially the ones who have family still inside :( #noteworthynovember @Jess7

I'm really interested in reading about Scientology for obvious reasons (i.e. it's totally bananas) but this was still not a great read. Ron Miscavage has a tendency to ramble and repeat himself and he doesn't seem to have a lot of good dirt. It's not terrible, but if you're going to read about Scientology, I'd go with the vastly superior "Going Clear" by Lawrence Wright.

This religion/cult is fascinating!! I'm a bit obsessed with stories of Scientology survivors.

I read this book because I am interested in the influence of cults and the story of scientology apparently goes right through my hometown. It's more memoir than tell-all. The author still believes in the tenets of scientology even if he feels his son is perverting those tenets. A quick read. The author tends to ramble and repeat. But I did learn some things about scientology. It's a one-sided story but if you like the topic the book might appeal.

I have a morbid fascination with Scientology from a purely train-wreck perspective. Though the more I read the sadder I am about all the people who have been hurt by it. I'm sure this book will be no exception.

I loved Troublemaker by Leah Remini so I had to pick this one up-- further down the rabbit hole I go!

Cult religions are something that fascinate me, and I was immediately interested in this one. Unfortunately this didn't go into enough about scientology for me or its inner circle. For the father of the leader of scientology Ron Miscavage didn't seem to know that much.

Really interesting, but if you've read Going Clear or any other Scientology book, not much new information. If you want juicy Scientology gossip, I preferred Leah Remini's book Troublemaker.

Aw yisssss. Talk about genre kryptonite. My appetite for Scientology memoirs is quite literally boundless. Tucking in to bed with this one on my iPad. Will I sleep?

Listening to this one. Really fascinating to get the story of a multigenerational Scientology family from the older generation.
