Even This I Get to Experience
Even This I Get to Experience | Norman Lear
5 posts | 6 read | 1 to read
Norman Lear is the renowned creator of such iconic television programs as All in the Family, Maude, and The Jeffersons. He remade our television culture from the ground up, and in Even This I Get To Experience, he opens up about the ups and downs of his three marriages, tells stories about time spent with Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin and offers a thrilling new look at the golden age of show business. He tells of life growing up in the Great Depression right through to his father's imprisonment and his own eventual affluence. Endlessly readable and unforgettable.

♥️

I loved All in the Family as a kid. Even though, in the early 90s, I didn't understand much of the context, I still laughed at Meathead and Archie's bickering and had a sense that it was more significant than I could grasp. Like many of his shows, it had broad appeal, but so much more behind it. TV will never be the same.

dabbe Mr. Lear was a legend. RIP. 💙❄️💙 5mo
Ruthiella I watched it in real time in the ‘70s and probably missed a lot of the context! 😂 5mo

I laughed, I cried (no seriously, I did!) at this delightful memoir of the rise and rise of the great Norman Lear.

For the record, I love memoirs. Memoirs are the only nonfiction I really enjoy. In addition to that, I grew up on Norman Lear. All in the Family, Good Times, and The Jeffersons are all part of the fabric of my childhood. With all of that, I loved this book. The man is in his nineties, and he lived through and participated in so much television history. I found his recollections very interesting.

Tamra I think we could use some Norman Lear in Tv today. Even though I was very young, I got the social significance of the themes. 5y
GypsyKat I love memoirs too. There‘s just something great about listening to someone‘s story. ❤️ 5y

I actually have everything done for school, so I am spending my Saturday reading guilt-free. The grading period ended yesterday, so I was forced to get everything done. I lucked out in the new kitten department, because JB is adorable and loves to snuggle with me when I read. When he sees me get a book, he comes running to sit with me. I hope he never grows out of that 😻

Currently reading the left two on audio via Libby, even though I have these hardcovers. I listen while I work. And reading the third in person, lol. Also, Inkspell on Libby.
