Eat Up
Eat Up: Food, Appetite and Eating What You Want | Ruby Tandoh
12 posts | 8 read | 2 reading | 9 to read
Think about that first tickle of hunger in your stomach. A moment ago, you could have been thinking about anything, but now it's thickly buttered marmite toast, a frosty scoop of ice cream straight from the tub, some creamy, cheesy scrambled eggs or a fuzzy, perfectly-ripe peach. Eating is one of life's greatest pleasures. Food nourishes our bodies, helps us celebrate our successes (from a wedding cake to a post-night out kebab), cheers us up when we're down, introduces us to new cultures and - when we cook and eat together - connects us with the people we love. In Eat Up, Ruby Tandoh celebrates the fun and pleasure of food, taking a look at everything from gluttons and gourmets in the movies, to the symbolism of food and sex. She will arm you against the fad diets, food crazes and bad science that can make eating guilt-laden and expensive, drawing eating inspiration from influences as diverse as Roald Dahl, Nora Ephron and Gemma from TOWIE. Filled with straight-talking, sympathetic advice on everything from mental health to recipe ideas and shopping tips, this is a book that clears away the fog, to help you fall back in love with food.

Thank you so much for the tag @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks ♡♡

1. I mean. Sugary food. It can make my blood sugar go crazy or make my mood swing. But I just LOVE my gluten free brownies, cookies, cake, etc 😅
2. Oooo. Hmmm... My planner I think. It is FINALLY a planner I love haha.
3. Tagged :)
4. @Crazeedi Sorry if you have already done it. I'm just getting on Litsy for the day :)

This book is so good and will definitely make you hungry. But it‘s real strength is in deciphering and deconstructing the messages around us that make eating complicated. Instead, this book is about eating because it‘s good and that‘s a message we could stand to hear more often.

I found this such a cathartic read and I love this quote from the book which to me sums up her refreshingly non-judgemental approach to discussing food. This book feels like the antidote to the mixed and often toxic messages we receive about food from society and from each other. I can't recommend it enough #eatup #food #recipes #rubytandoh #greatbritishbakeoff

This book was a DELIGHT. There are discussions about culture, body positivity, assimilation, physical health, scare tactics, emotional health, and love all centered around food. Ruby has a wonderful voice for writing and I could not be more excited to own this book so I can keep going back to it. Such a lovely nonfiction homage to eating while living your best life. I recommend this to everyone! #EatUp! #RubyTandoh

Phantasma.Maddie @MellieAntoinete I had never heard of her note reading this book, but she is so lovely. I heard of this book for a Booktuber I follow and I could not have been more pleased overall. I read it slowly to really try and gain the messages but now I just want to start it all over again. It‘s that good! 12mo

I'm absolutely loving this book. Food has been a struggle for me lately, especially as a mom. I feel I owe it to my child to eat well, but at the same time diet culture and anxiety have taken away all of the enjoyment I have in food. These words are helping me so much to view food - my favorite foods as well, not just the "proper" sounding foods - in a way that also fits in with my own identity. And I think that is incredible.
