"A compulsive page-turner with a shocking twist--get ready to stay up all night!" --Sara Shepard, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Pretty Little Liars Gabe and Elyse have never met. But they both have something to hide. Quiet, shy Elyse can't believe it when she's cast as the lead in her Portland high school's production of Romeo and Juliet. Her best friend, Brynn, is usually the star, and Elyse isn't sure she's up to the task. But when someone at rehearsals starts to catch her eye--someone she knows she absolutely shouldn't be with--she can't help but be pulled into the spotlight. Austin native Gabe is contemplating the unthinkable--breaking up with Sasha, his headstrong, popular girlfriend. She's not going to let him slip through her fingers, though, and when rumors start to circulate around school, he knows she has the power to change his life forever. Gabe and Elyse both make the mistake of falling for the wrong person, and falling hard. Told in parallel narratives, this twisty, shocking story shows how one bad choice can lead to a spiral of unforeseen consequences that not everyone will survive.

If you've ever watched Fatal Attraction and wondered what Glenn Close's character might have been like as a teen girl, then half this book is most definitely for you as Gabe deals with his ex's obsession. The other half of the book is Elyse's story- a shy young teen attempting to keep her addict mother's life together all as she's falling for her teacher. I probably should have seen the end coming... but it took me way too long! 😆

This was very YA but SO quick to get through, I did pick what was happening right away, but it was still a great story.

An 11 year old gave me this book and said that I had to read it. If you have read the first chapter of this book, then you will understand why I was pretty disturbed. However, I persevered and kept reading and I'm glad I did. I did not predict the twist until the chapter before it was revealed.

If you enjoy a disturbing, quick YA read, this one‘s for you. Donaldson is quick to unsettle, making clear something is off.

On the cover 4 characters are called out with their dubious qualities. They are Elyse, Gabe, Catherine, and Sasha, but all the chapters alternate POVs from Elyse (in Portland), to Gabe (in Texas). I spent 200 pages waiting for a clue to connect them. The last 1/3 of the book was unputdownable despite too much teenage drama.

Theshadedbuffalo Ooohhhh totally stacked! 6y

Just finished this #yathriller as a #preview #rso #septrelease2018🇦🇺 I found it hard going, using a device with which I really struggle—mentally unhinged characters manipulating the MCs, leaving them helpless & powerless. So urgh. Didn‘t really enjoy it even though it does everything (else) right. Tight plot lines, rising tension and suspense, twists and reveals, and strong characterisation.

Another stack of Goodreads wins came my way! 🙂🙃🙂
Yay for #BookMail !!!

I need to plot out a schedule or something so I can TRY to get through all these recently acquired ARCs and those from NetGalley sometime soon.

(Realized you can‘t see the title/author of the one in front, it‘s the tagged book, a YA mystery.)

Cathythoughts Very lovely 😊 6y

I devoured this in one sitting. A YA mystery-thriller featuring 4 teenagers and the secrets they are hiding. Elyse‘s father is not in the picture and her mom has a drug problem leaving Elyse to take care of everything. She gets cast as the lead in her high school play and gets the attention of someone unexpected. Gabe breaks up with his gf Sasha, who will do anything to get him back. Definitely did not expect that ending!

Comes out 5/29/18!

Jess7 Do you think I would like this one? It‘s a choice for first to read so trying to decide whether to use points for it or not 6y

I absolutely devoured this YA thriller about high school romances gone bad. I'm still reeling from the deliciously diabolical finale! No doubt, this will be one of my favorite reads of the year.
