6 posts | 10 read | 5 to read
The boy of her dreams...is a girl's manga artist?!To the eyes of high school student Chiyo Sakura, classmate Umetarou Nozaki--brawny of build and brusque of tongue--is a dreamboat! When Chiyo finally works up the courage to tell Nozaki how she feels about him, she knows rejection is on the table...but getting recruited as a manga-ka's assistant?! Never in a million years! But for someone who makes a living drawing sweet girly romances, Nozaki-kun is a little slow on the uptake when it comes to matters of the heart in reality. And so Chiyo's daily life of manga making and heartache begins!

This was my first-ever manga, and I thought it was pretty cute. I picked it up specifically because it is a slice-of-life story (no big bad, no high stakes) and enjoyed it as a refreshing break from more serious stuff. I liked the translation notes and explanations of a few references in the text. I‘ll read more for sure.

Did not really like this at all. The art style was fine but the story line was just confusing. It honestly felt like reading a series of related one-shots regarding three different characters. Very much just slices of their daily lives without feeling like there was an overall plot line at all much less an introduction of the characters. I just left reading this with way too much confusion - not planning on reading the rest of the volumes.

#barnesandnoble : *ends Viz manga sale*

Me: ...f-finally...

B&N: *starts Yen Press sale*

Me: ...uhhh *collapses*

AMVP Really though, aside from Nozaki-kun and maybe the Bacanno light novels, there's not really much of Yen that piques my interest. 7y

Was introduced via the anime, one of the funniest to come out in recent years. The source #manga lives up to the hype, with great characters and hilarious artwork/writing. I'm pretty hard on these kinds of comedies, as there's usually a lot lost in translation, but Nozaki absolutely kills it. If you're even passingly familiar or interested in shoujo, you owe it to yourself to pick this one up (#BarnesandNoble even has a sale on).
