Dirty Magic
Dirty Magic | Jaye Wells
MAGIC IS A DRUG. CAREFUL HOW YOU USE IT. The Magical Enforcement Agency keeps dirty magic off the streets, but there's a new blend out there that's as deadly as it is elusive. When patrol cop Kate Prospero shoots the lead snitch in this crucial case, she's brought in to explain herself. But the more she learns about the investigation, the more she realizes she must secure a spot on the MEA task force. Especially when she discovers that their lead suspect is the man she walked away from ten years earlier - on the same day she swore she'd given up dirty magic for good. Kate Prospero's about to learn the hard way that crossing a wizard will always get you burned, and that when it comes to magic, you should never say never.

A different approach to urban fantasy. Drugs are replaced with magic and the book deals with addiction and temptation. Really interesting worldbuilding and characters

It was good. It was fine. Could‘ve replaced the word magic with drugs and you‘d have a story about opiates and meth cooking but sure…we‘ll call it ‘magic‘. I work in clinical tox so stories about drugs don‘t interest me unless it‘s scientific and nonfiction.

A fun police procedural/urban fantasy. Kate Prospero is a former street mage who gave up practicing dirty magic when her mom died. She‘s now a police officer who gets assigned to a special task force to try to figure out who is creating a dirty spell that turns people into terrifying werewolves.

Going through my bookshelves today. This shelf was pretty much filled with supernatural (vampires/powers/witches/etc) type books. I accumulated most of them as a teenager and as I've grown so have my reading. It was hard getting rid of #daughtersofthemoon. The first two shelves now hold supernatural... thinking about putting dystopia here as well #thinningtheherd #nostalgia #iwillmissyouall

Bookshelf Review #11: One of my favorite heroines is Kate Prospero. She polices the paranormal--alchemists, in fact, who are peddling dirty magic for profit and ruining lives. There are three books in this clever series that combines elements of police procedurals with urban fantasy. Methinks you'll dig it.

I wavered between Pick and So-So for this. An UF with some v familiar elements, but well utilised. I particularly enjoyed the gradual (and partial!) reveal of the tangled histories of various protagonists. Will probably read the second book in this series at some point.
