I acknowledge this is a cilantro novel and unabashedly declare I am in the 🖤 camp. It‘s time for a reread and I am savoring every delicious gothic moment during bedtime reading.

TEArificbooks It is being adapted into another movie comes out in January 3w
LeahBergen I‘m in the “love” camp (but I love cilantro, too 😆). 3w
Cathythoughts Great book ❤️💔 3w

AlaMich “A cilantro novel!” 😂 (and I hate cilantro!!) 3w
Aims42 Okay, I‘m using your “cilantro novel” description going forward. That‘s perfect!!! (edited) 3w
Amiable I have never heard of “cilantro novel” as a description—but like @Aims42 I am going to immediately insert it into my lexicon. 😄 (And also, I love cilantro!) 🌿 (edited) 3w
lil1inblue Cilantro novel needs a hashtag! I'm in the 🖤 camp as well. Gimme all the gothic. 3w
Cathythoughts Also , how long sinse your first read ? And has Heathcliff changed for you ?! I find my younger self reading and my older self reading have such different views , still whatever way you take it , it‘s a great book. 3w
Tamra @Cathythoughts I‘ve read it a couple of times, but many years apart so I can‘t recall. I completely agree re: how the reading experience of novels changes at different ages & stages! 😊 That‘s a sign of a great book! 3w
Tamra @Cathythoughts the three I hold in the same vein that I get a lot of out on reread is WH, Ethan Frome, and The Scarlet Letter. 🖤 Gothic darlings. 3w
Cathythoughts @Tamra I loved Ethan Frome. I havnt read the Scarlet Letter , but I will now. It‘s Heathcliff I see so differently over time. As a young girl, I adored him. Later in life , he is a more questionable character. But he is a brilliant character. 3w
Tamra @Cathythoughts I recall feeling sorry for him for being treated so badly as a youth and it explaining his terrible character. But, we shall see this time around! 🥺 I do think you‘d like Scarlet Letter - much to chew on. (edited) 3w
Cathythoughts @Tamra Yes. He was treated badly. That‘s awful 😞 I feel for him that way. 3w

“He wanted all to lie in an ecstasy of peace; I wanted all to sparkle and dance in a glorious jubilee. I said his heaven would be only half alive; and he said mine would be drunk: I said I should fall asleep in his; and he said he could not breathe in mine.”

Pickpick

I feel like it‘s a book nemesis for me (a book I love and hate at the same time)
The characters are quite rough and hateful but their perspective and approach is what kept me stick to the book to the end.
Also to mention Emily Bronte‘s writing style and choice of words have taken me aback! (it‘s her first book that I read)
P.S. Vol.I had more depth in terms of context than Vol.II

Going to try and read this one with a chapter a day method. I haven't read a classic in a LONG time, so the writing is dry to me and hopefully reading it in small increments will be better for my enjoyment😊
